FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL NOON MST
FOR THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...S...
 
IN NORTHEAST ARIZONA
 
   ...EAST CENTRAL APACHE COUNTY...CENTRAL NAVAJO COUNTY
 
FLOODING IN THE PUERCO RIVER WAS APPROACHING PETRIFIED FOREST NATIONAL
PARK SHORTLY BEFORE 900 AM. THE CREST WAS STILL ABOUT 8 FEET HIGH. THE
FLOOD HAS BEEN SLOWED SOMEWHAT MORE THAN EXPECTED BY CONSTRICTIONS IN
THE RIVER CHANNEL...BUT IT SHOULD REACH THE PARK SHORTLY...AND SHOULD
REACH HOLBROOK IN ANOTHER TWO OR THREE HOURS. IT MAY BE SOMEWHAT
DIMINISHED BY THAT TIME...BUT WILL STILL BE DANGEROUS TO ANYONE IN OR
NEAR THE NORMALLY DRY PUERCO RIVER CHANNEL.
 
AS SOON AS THE FLOOD CRESTS AT THE NATIONAL PARK...WE WILL HAVE A
BETTER IDEA OF ITS TIMING AND STRENGTHr THE REST OF THE WAY INTO
HOLBROOK...AND WILL ISSUE AN UPDATED FLOOD WARNING OR RIVER BULLETIN
AS APPROPRIATE. MEANWHILE...PEOPLE SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE PUERCO
RIVER CHANNEL.
