NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DEL RIO TX
1220 AM CDT SUN SEP 23 1990

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL 430 AM FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTY IN

SOUTHCENTRAL TEXAS...VAL VERDE

AT 1215 AM CDT RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAIN OVER MOST
OF VAL VERDE COUNTY...AS WELL AS CROCKETT AND SUTTON COUNTIES. OTHER
DEVELOPMENT WAS INDICATED TO THE SOUTH OF DEL RIO. THESE STORMS WERE
DRIFTING SLOWLY TO THE NORTHEAST. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF UP TO 5 INCHES
DURING THE PAST 24 HOURS HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITH SOME OF THESE
THUNDERSTORMS. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OVER SATURATED GROUND WILL ALLOW
FOR CONTINUED RUNOFF INTO THE ALREADY SWOLLEN RIVERS AND DRAWS.

HIGHWAYS 163...189 AND FM 1024 ARE CLOSED AND WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR  
THE REMAINDER OF THE NIGHT.

CAMPERS AND CANOISTS ALONG THE DEVILS AND DRY DEVILS RIVERS SHOULD
MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROAD. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON
FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GR
OUND.
