SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DES MOINES IA 520 AM CDT SAT APR 22 1989 AT 520 AM...A COUPLE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA. THE FIRST STORM WAS NEAR OGDEN IN BOONE COUNTY...ABOUT 40 MILES NORTHWEST OF DES MOINES. THIS THUNDERSTORM WILL LIKELY PRODUCE GUSTY WINDS...BRIEF HEAVY RAIN...AND SMALL HAIL AS IT MOVES SOUTHEAST AT 35 MILES AN HOUR. THIS STORM WILL PASS NEAR THE TOWN OF MADRID BETWEEN 530 AND 6 AM. MADRID IS ABOUT 25 MILES NORTHWEST OF DES MOINES. THE SECOND STRONG THUNDERSTORM WAS JUST NORTHWEST OF FORT DODGE. THIS STORM WAS ALSO MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 35 MILES AN HOUR...AND WILL BE PASSING THROUGH THE FORT DODGE AREA BY AROUND 530 AM. BRIEF HEAVY RAINS AND GUSTY WINDS CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED WITH THIS STORM.
