THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING
EFFECTIVE UNTIL  300 AM EST FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES:
 
IN CENTRAL KENTUCKY
          ..POWELL

THE KENTUCKY STATE POLICE HAVE REPORTED THAT KENTUCKY STATE HIGHWAY
15 NEAR THE COMMUNITY OF BOWEN...40 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF
LEXINGTON..IN POWELL COUNTY...WAS COVERED BY HIGH WATER. NUMEROUS
OTHER ROADS AND SECONDARY ROADS WERE ALSO BLOCKED BY HIGH WATER IN
POWELL COUNTY...IN CENTRAL KENTUCKY.
 
ADDITIONALLY...THE RED RIVER AT CLAY CITY...33 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST
OF LEXINGTON...IN POWELL COUNTY WAS AT A STAGE ABOVE 13 FEET AND WAS
RISING.  FLOOD STAGE FOR THE RED RIVER AT CLAY CITY IS 18 FEET.  THE
RIVER WAS AT STAGE OF 4 FEET THIS MORNING.
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
 
A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT.  IT'S
IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE RELATIVE TO STREAMS, RIVERS, OR
CREEKS WHICH CAN BECOME KILLERS IN HEAVY RAINS.  CAMPERS SHOULD
AVOID CAMPING ALONG STREAMS OR CREEKS DURING THREATENING RAINS.
