SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT AND INDIANA WEATHER SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDIANAPOLIS IN 505 PM EST MON SEP 29 1986 ...A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EST FOR MUCH OF NORTHERN INDIANA... THE AREA OF INDIANA NOW INCLUDED IN THE TORNADO WATCH IS NORTH OF A LINE FROM COVINGTON IN FOUNTAIN COUNTY..TO LAFAYETTE..TO MONTICELLO IN WHITE COUNTY..TO JUST SOUTHEAST OF FORT WAYNE. AS OF 435 PM NO SEVERE WEATHER HAD BEEN REPORTED IN INDIANA BUT THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED VERY HEAVY RAIN AND WIND GUSTS TO 55 MILES AN HOUR AT THE MICHIANA REGIONAL AIRPORT IN SOUTH BEND. A SUMMARY OF INDIANA WEATHER TODAY COULD BE MADE WITH TWO WORDS.. WARM AND WINDY. SKIES WERE PARTLY SUNNY IN THE NORTH AND MOSTLY SUNNY IN THE SOUTH AS WINDS GUSTED TO 25 AND 30 MILES AN HOUR STATEWIDE THIS AFTERNOON. LATE AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM THE MID 80S IN NORTHERN INDIANA TO THE LOW 90S IN THE SOUTH. INDIANA WEATHER WILL CONTINUE TO BE WARM AND HUMID FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS AS THE HOOSIER STATE REMAINS IN A WARM SOUTHERLY FLOW OF AIR BETWEEN HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE EAST COAST AND LOW PRESSURE OVER THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND SOUTHERN PLAINS.
