An explosive eruption occurred at 1503 on 9 December and lasted three minutes and 55 seconds. A voluminous ash plume rapidly rose 4 km above the crater rim and drifted WSW. Pyroclastic flows traveled 2-3.4 km down the SE flanks. The Alert Level was raised to 3 (on a scale of 0-5) and local governments were advised to evacuate residents within a 6 km radius. According to news articles ashfall was reported in 30 cities and towns across the municipalities of Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Antique. (reference # 13920)
As of June 14, 2025, a total of 24,406 families or 94,053 persons were affected and the previously reported death was removed pending validation. A total of 5,032 damaged houses are reported with 1 reported as totally damaged. Affected crop areas total of 580.87 hectares with 306.56 hectares totally damaged, with no chance of recovery. Total cost of damages to agriculture reached approximately $2.2 million USD. (reference #14160)
