The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) reports, as of 7 December, of the 75 mountain climbers/hikers there were 23 fatalities, 12 injured and 52 rescued people following the main eruption that occurred on 3 December. (reference #13663, #13664)
Volcanic activity had been reported for Marapi Volcano in West Sumatra, Indonesia by the Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) on 3 Dec 2023 at 1454 HRS UTC+7. The height of the eruption column was observed to be approximately 3,000 meters above the peak (approximately 5,891 meters above sea level). The ash column was observed to be gray in color with a thick intensity. As of 4 Dec at 1030 UTC, the BNPB reported that the impacts of Marapi Volcano activity had reached 11 people dead, 26 missing, and 9 injured. (reference #13654, #13655)
