EF0 tornado, Neosho to Granby, Missouri, May 19, 2017

From Neosho to Granby, this EF0 tornado ran 4.1 miles across Newton County on May 19, 2017, touching down at 3:10 PM CDT and reaching 300 yards wide. It killed nobody, and did $50,000 of property damage.

The rating scale

    Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. EF4166 to 200 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

  7. Unrated

What the Weather Service recorded

Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms over a two day period produced numerous weak tornadoes and wind damage reports across the Missouri Ozarks. Training of storms led to localized heavy rainfall and minor flooding reports.

An EF-1 tornado touched down along Highway 60 on the north side of Neosho. Numerous trees were damaged along the path. A few homes were damaged. Estimated maximum winds were up to 95 mph.
