   Light damage. Surface peeled off some roofs, gutters and siding damaged, branches broken, shallow-rooted trees pushed over.

   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

4. EF3136 to 165 mph

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

The first area of rotation investigated by our survey team today took place near the intersection of Hwy 65 (near Mile Marker 21) and County Road 27.

Drone footage provided additional views of the start and end point of this tornado, courtesy of Jackson County EMA.

The tornado began in a creek on the property at this location, snapping and uprooting numerous hardwood and softwood trees as it approached the house. The house had minor structural damage consisting of missing shingles and damage to a few gutters.

In the front yard of the home, a small chicken coop was destroyed and a hay-barn-like structure covering the tractor was destroyed as well. The tornado continued moving northeast as it approached the ridge to the east, ending in a flat area on the top of the ridge just beyond Hwy 65.

For now, this is the end point of the tornado. Pending further satellite imagery within the next week, the end point may be extended when/if this data becomes available.

• Several large tree trunks snapped between 1 to 2 feet and diameter. Parts of a tin roof peeled up and spread out in a field.
• Several 1 foot diameter trees uprooted, and several large tree branches snapped.

9 minutes of warning. NWS HUN issued a tornado warning for this county at 18:24 UTC, 9 minutes before the tornado touched down, in force until 18:53 UTC.

The county was under a severe thunderstorm watch, issued at 17:23 UTC and running to 23:17 UTC.

The Storm Prediction Center had this point in a Slight Risk, with a 0.05 chance of a tornado within 25 miles. The outlook in force was issued at 16:20 UTC.
