* WHAT...One to two feet of inundation above ground level in low- lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...In Delaware, New Castle. In New Jersey, Salem. * WHEN...Until 3 AM EDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...At this level, widespread roadway flooding occurs along tidal waterways. Some roads become impassable. Minor damage to vulnerable structures may begin to occur.
A Coastal Flood Warning means that moderate or major tidal flooding is occurring or imminent. Be prepared for rising water levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property. Follow the recommendations of local emergency management officials. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs. Visit the National Water Prediction Service at https://water.noaa.gov/wfo/phi for additional water level and flood impact information for your local tide gauge.

Other depths
NOAA predicts the current at more than one depth here. This page is for the shallowest; the water deeper down turns at different times and runs at different speeds.
| Depth | Strongest flood today | Strongest ebb today |
|---|---|---|
| 6 ft | 1.9 kt 10:58 PM | 2.0 kt 5:33 PM |
| 16 ft | 1.6 kt 10:56 PM | 1.8 kt 5:33 PM |
| 23 ft | 1.4 kt 10:55 PM | 1.5 kt 5:34 PM |
What this means
The flood is the tidal current running in from the sea, the ebb the current running back out. Slack water is the short turn between them, when the current is weakest: the time to cross a strong channel, anchor, or dive. Slack in a channel is not the time of high or low tide; it can come hours after.
Speeds are knots along the channel's main axis, and directions are degrees true toward which the water flows, as NOAA prints its tables. A current against the wind stands the waves up steep and close together.
Predictions are astronomical: the moon and the sun, not the weather. Strong wind, river flow after heavy rain and storm surge all change the real current.
