- Heat in Virginia, July 4 to 7, 1999High pressure sat off the Mid-Atlantic coast from the 4th through the 7th, acting like a heat pump drawing extremely warm and humid air into Northern Virginia.
- Heat in Virginia, August 16 to 17, 1997West winds circulating around a "Bermuda" high pressure system allowed temperatures to soar over the weekend of the 16th and 17th. Maximum temperatures surpassed the century mark across most of northern Virginia (except in the higher elevations) both days.
- Heat in Virginia, May 10, 2018Two 6 month old infants were left in a hot vehicle at the 2400 block of Alfalfa Lane, near Jefferson Davis Highway just south of Richmond Virginia. They were transported to a hospital.
- Heat and Hail in Virginia, July 3, 2011A cold front passed through the area during the 3rd. A southerly flow ahead of the front caused enough warm and moist air for moderate instability to develop. The combination of lift associated with the front and instability triggered showers and thunderstorms.
- Heat in Virginia, July 1, 2012A ridge of high pressure dominated the central and eastern U.S. the last few days of June and into the 1st of July.
- Heat in Virginia, June 30, 2003A 15-year-old-girl died of heat stroke on July 2nd while hiking on the Appalachian Trail along the Clarke and Loudoun County border. She was participating in a 13-day hiking trip with other students from Georgia, and she died on the 4th day of the hike.
- Heat in Virginia, July 18, 2005A 60-year old man was killed due to excessive heat. The individual was a construction worker and was working on a paving project.
- Heat in Virginia, June 21, 2011One female adult, one female toddler, and one male infant were found passed out in an enclosed car in Danville on a day when the temperature reached the middle 90s. All passengers were taken to hospitals. The two females survived but the male infant died four days later.
- Heat in Virginia, August 31, 2014The first 90-degree day of August 2014 and one of the few 90-degree days overall of a very cool summer also brought a heat-related child death. A 2-year old girl left in a parked, closed van was found dead the following day.
- Heat in Virginia, July 31, 2025A one-year-old boy, who would have turned two years old in two days, was left alone and restrained in the back seat of a car in Madison Heights of Amherst County while the foster dad of this child was at work for eight hours.
- Heat in Virginia, June 7 to 9, 1999High pressure centered over the Southeast U.S. caused air to downslope over the Appalachian Mountains, sending afternoon temperatures into the upper 90s to lower 100s. The heat, in combination with very humid air, resulted in afternoon heat indices between 100 and 100 degrees.
- Heat and Hail in Virginia, August 25, 2007A hot and humid air mass developed over the Mid Atlantic ahead of a strong cold front on August 25th. Temperatures climbed into the mid 90s by noon. These temperatures combined with high humidity created heat index values around 105.
- Heat in Virginia, June 29 to 30, 2012A dome of high pressure that had been centered over the southwestern U.S. around June 20-23 shifted to the north and east from June 23-27 bringing all-time record heat to the Great Plains and Midwest.
- Heat in Virginia, July 5 to 8, 2012High Pressure centered just to the west of the Middle Atlantic Region produced hot and humid weather over central and eastern Virginia from July 5th through July 8th.
- Heat in Virginia, May 18 to 21, 1996AN EARLY-SEASON FOUR-DAY HEAT WAVE PRODUCED RECORD OR NEAR RECORDHIGH TEMPERATURES ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA. HIGH TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE 80S AND LOW 90S ACROSS THE REGION ON MAY 18.
- Flash Flood and Heat in Virginia, June 25, 2000High pressure in combination with sunny skies caused afternoon temperatures to reach into the upper 80s to mid 90s on the 25th. Dew points reached into the lower 70s, creating heat indices in the middle 90s to lower 100s.
- Heat and Hail in Virginia, June 8, 2007A strong cold front pushed across the Mid Atlantic on the evening of June 8th. Ahead of the front, temperatures measured in the mid to upper 90s and dew points around 70, creating a heat index above 100.
- Excessive Heat and Heat in Virginia, July 3, 2018An upper-level high along with surface high over the western Atlantic led to hot and humid conditions.
- Excessive Heat and Heat in Virginia, July 19, 2019Temperatures from the mid 90s to near 100 degrees combined with dew points near 70 degrees to create dangerously high heat index values.
- Excessive Heat and Heat in Virginia, July 21, 2019Temperatures from the mid 90s to around 100 degrees combined with dew points in the 70s to create dangerously high heat index values.
- Excessive Heat and Heat in Virginia, July 20, 2019Temperatures from the mid 90s to the lower 100s combined with dew points near 70 degrees to create dangerously high heat index values.
- Heat in Virginia, July 20, 2020A ridge of high pressure developed over the eastern United States and western Atlantic, allowing a southwesterly flow to bring plenty of tropical air northward. High temperatures plus high humidity resulted in heat indices in the 100-110 degree range.
