- Blizzard and Winter Storm in South Dakota, December 12 to 16, 2022A powerful winter storm moved slowly across the central and northern Plains to the upper Midwest; bringing heavy snow, some mixed precipitation, strong winds, and periods of blizzard or near blizzard conditions across the plains for a multi-day period.
- Winter Storm and Winter Weather in South Dakota, November 10, 2020Unusual warmth with a week of temperatures mainly in the 70s (even 50s and 60s on November 9 less than a day before this storm) was brought to an abrupt end as a deep trough of low pressure moved out of Rockies and into the Plains.
- Winter Storm and Heavy Snow in South Dakota, April 1 to 3, 2025A system to the south looped up into Minnesota, generating a band of heavy snow and strong winds across mainly northeast South Dakota, with a lull and partial melting before wrap around precipitation and a re-freeze resulted in additional ice and snowfall.

Snow developed during the morning hours, with rain and snow changing to snow southeast of the Black Hills by the early afternoon.

- Blizzard and Winter Storm in South Dakota, February 21 to 23, 2023A long-duration winter storm developed across southeast South Dakota on February 21, with waves of heavier snowfall across the region as winds increased to a gusty 30 to 50 mph.
- Winter Storm in South Dakota, October 26, 1996A winter storm with heavy snow and gusty northwest winds created blizzard-like conditions over western South Dakota. The heaviest snow fell in the central and northern Black Hills where one to two feet was common.
- Winter Storm in South Dakota, May 11 to 12, 2005A strong late spring storm developed across the Central Rockies and moved across the Northern Plains. The storm brought abundant amounts of precipitation to the area.
- Winter Storm in South Dakota, October 4 to 5, 2005A strong low pressure system developed over the Central Rockies and moved through the Northern Plains, bringing heavy snow to much of the northern Black Hills and far northwest South Dakota.
- Winter Storm in South Dakota, March 14, 2002Widespread heavy snow was preceded by freezing rain. Precipitation from the Chamberlain to Huron areas and east to Brookings was mainly snow, with accumulations ranging from 8 inches in several areas to 19 inches at Huron.

- Winter Storm in South Dakota, December 20 to 21, 2006Freezing rain and snow fell over part of southeast South Dakota in the western Missouri to James River area, from Gregory and Pickstown in the west to Mitchell and Freeman in the east.
- Winter Storm in South Dakota, October 26, 1996An intense area of low pressure brought heavy rains to western Corson county. As colder air moved in behind the low and winds gusted to 50 mph, the rain changed to snow and three to five inches of ice formed on power lines and poles.
