Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana
Every astronomical low tide event the National Weather Service has filed in Louisiana, year by year, with the most significant episodes. Unusually low water from tides and offshore wind that caused impacts.

Ranked by deaths, injuries, damage and size together.
- Ice Storm and Winter Storm in Louisiana, February 12 to 17, 2021The first in a series of Arctic Cold Fronts arrived during the 12th pushing tide levels down along the coast, however the subfreezing temperatures and winter weather did not arrive until the 14th.
- Extreme Cold and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 5 to 7, 2014A strong cold front swept through during the 5th with strong north winds behind the boundary pushing tides below normal and hindering ship traffic. Very cold temperatures also swept into South Louisiana behind the boundary. Two people were reported dead from exposure.
- Tornadoes and Flood in Louisiana, December 25 to 29, 2012A warm front lifted out of the Gulf of Mexico early Christmas morning with mostly small hail in storms along the boundary, however one storm did become severe.
- Tornado and Hail in Louisiana, February 23 to 26, 2016A cold front move across Louisiana and a few severe storms occurred ahead of the boundary.
- Damaging Wind and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, December 20 to 21, 2012A strong cold front pushed through South Louisiana with strong showers and storms along the boundary. Wind gusts in these storms were commonly in the 45 to 55 MPH range as they moved from northwest to southeast.
- Damaging Wind and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, December 28, 2015A line of showers and storms along a cold front pushed across the region. One storm caused wind damage in South Central Louisiana. Behind the front, strong north winds pushed the tide levels below normal.
- Flash Flooding and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 27 to 30, 2018A short wave and incoming cold front provided lift of a very moist air mass. Training of showers and storms produced heavy rain ahead of a cold front. Strong north winds behind the front pushed tides below normal for a few days.
- Hail and Damaging Winds in Louisiana, March 11 to 16, 2026A series of upper disturbances and fast moving cold fronts cause multiple rounds of stormy weather across portions of Louisiana. Several severe storms occurred. Behind the fast paced systems, tides fell below normal.
- Winter Weather and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 12 to 17, 2018An arctic front pushed through the region during the evening of the 15th and temperatures fell into the 16th. Overrunning rain eventually changed into freezing rain then snow.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 26 to 30, 2026A second strong cold front moved into the region with high pressure slowly drifting across the area. This kept tides below normal for the end of the month.
- Tornado and Damaging Winds in Louisiana, October 25 to 29, 2025A cold front pushed into the region with a line of thunderstorms. One storm produced a tornado. Strong north winds pushed tide levels below normal behind the cold front.
- Hail and Damaging Winds in Louisiana, January 21 to 23, 2016A strong cold front pushed across the area during the 21st producing severe thunderstorms. Strong north winds behind the boundary produced much below normal tides at the coast.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 15 to 19, 2026High pressure settled into the region pushing the tide below normal for several days.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, December 29 to 31, 2025A strong late month cold front moved across the Louisiana coast and pushed the tides below normal for multiple cycles.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, April 14 to 15, 2014Strong northwest winds behind a cold front pushed tides well below mean lower low water levels from Sabine Pass to Vermilion Bay during the 15th and the 16th.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, March 21 to 22, 2010A strong cold front moved southward across southwest Louisiana on March 20, bringing scattered sleet and snow flurries to portions of central Louisiana from late on March 20 into much of the day on March 21. No accumulation was seen as temperatures remained well above freezing.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, March 1 to 3, 2013Strong north winds along the louisiana coast behind a cold front caused a pair of low tides more than one foot below mllw.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 2 to 3, 2014A strong cold front passed through the region during the 2nd with strong north winds behind the boundary. These strong winds pushed tides below normal.
- Coastal Flood and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, October 25 to 26, 2015As a low pressure system moved along the coast of Louisiana water levels rose above 3 feet above MLLW. Minor flooding was reported from Sabine Pass to Cypremort and Burns Points. As the low pressure departed the area north winds pushed water levels below normal.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 22 to 27, 2017A series of cold fronts produced strong north to northwest winds across the coast. This pushed the tides below -1 MLLW during multiple tide cycles.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, April 7 to 9, 2022A cold front moved through the region with strong north winds behind the boundary. These winds pushed the tide levels below normal.
- Coastal Flood and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, January 22 to 25, 2023Low and high tidal variations occurred along the coast of Southwest Louisiana due to a pair of strong cold fronts and an area of low pressure.
- Flash Flood and Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, December 4 to 8, 2025A coastal low moved across the northern gulf coast producing rain and thunderstorms. Minor flooding occurred in Lafayette. Strong north winds behind the front pushed tides below normal.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, February 22 to 23, 2026Strong north winds behind a cold front pushed tides below normal across the south Louisiana coast.
- Astronomical Low Tide in Louisiana, February 17 to 18, 2015A cold front pushed across the coast during the 16th with strong north winds driving tide levels below normal at the coast.
