Flood in Idaho
Every flood event the National Weather Service has filed in Idaho, year by year, with the most significant episodes. Flooding that develops more slowly than a flash flood: rivers leaving their banks, or water standing over land for an extended time.

Ranked by deaths, injuries, damage and size together.
- Flooding in Idaho, May 1 to 31, 2017Winter snow melt continued from record winter snowfall and flooding continued throughout much of May in much of southeast Idaho especially in the central mountains and along the Big Wood River.
- Winter Storm and Avalanche in Idaho, January 7 to 11, 2017A long dawn out atmospheric river event brought a variety of impacts to southeast Idaho including extremely heavy mountain snow, valley snow then rain on snow leading to flooding and roads covered with ice in the Snake River Plain, and many mountain avalanches.
- Flood in Idaho, February 8 to 20, 1996Major flooding took place the second week of February in Northern Idaho. Conditions that developed in late January contributed significantly to the flood.
- Flooding in Idaho, June 1 to 30, 1997During the month of June the spring melt of near record snowpack in Idaho's mountains caused extensive flooding along the Snake River and many of it's tributaries.
- Flooding in Idaho, February 4 to 28, 2017A trend toward above normal temperatures in February after extreme snowfall amounts in both December and January led to extensive flooding issues during the entirety of the month.
- Flooding and Heavy Rain in Idaho, August 5 to 6, 2014Heavy rain inundated much of South Central Idaho over a two day period from the 5th through the 6th. Three to six inches of rain fell across the area causing significant flooding in Twin Falls and surrounding locations.
- Debris Flows and Flooding in Idaho, March 15 to 31, 2017March was a very wet month over the Idaho Panhandle. A series of moist Pacific storm systems brought periodic heavy rain to the region in addition to warmer temperatures which quickly melted low elevation snow pack.
- Flooding in Idaho, February 8 to 10, 2017Strong Southwesterly flow behind a warm front spread heavy rain across most of the intermountain west. Flooding occurred in most of South Central Idaho.
- Flash Flood and Flooding in Idaho, June 1 to 30, 2017Winter snow melt and river flooding continued throughout much of June with Blaine and Custer counties receiving the worst of it.
- Flood in Idaho, April 9 to 13, 2019Moderate to heavy rainfall combined with snow melt contributed to flooding, mud-slides and road wash-outs and closures.
- Flooding in Idaho, May 1 to 31, 1997During the month of May, unusually heavy snow pack at the higher elevations of Idaho began to melt. Runoff swelled many rivers statewide to flood stage. Hardest hit by damaging floods were the counties in the Idaho Panhandle.
- Flash Flooding and Flooding in Idaho, June 3 to 11, 2010A deep low pressure system anchored in the Gulf of Alaska and a zonal flow pattern across the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West provided the right ingredients for a sustained moisture plume which produced convection and periods of moderate to heavy rain over a three day…
- Flooding in Idaho, March 1 to 31, 2017Lower elevation mountain snowpack continued to melt in March and widespread sheet flooding from the snow melt. Although the severity of the flooding diminished from the onset in January and February, the persistence and flood damage continued in most counties.
- Flooding in Idaho, June 1 to 15, 1997Rivers and streams in Idaho's panhandle region began flooding in May from heavy spring snow melt. Flooding along several of these rivers continued well into the month of June, with the Pend Oreille, St. Joe and Kootenai Rivers flooding roads and a few homes.
- Debris Flows and Flooding in Idaho, April 1 to 20, 2011A stationary trough of low pressure off the Pacific Northwest Coast steered a deep fetch of subtropical moisture into the Idaho Panhandle which persisted from the end of March through April 7th bringing several rounds of heavy rain.
- Flood in Idaho, July 1 to 11, 2012A very wet June and early July, combined with high elevation snow melt, resulted in a record influx of water into Lake Koocanusa since Libby Dam was built in the mid-1970s.
- Debris Flows and Flooding in Idaho, March 28 to 31, 2012A stagnant longwave pattern featuring a broad trough off the Pacific Northwest Coast and upper-level ridge over the Central US resulted in a parade of moist storm systems tracking through the Inland Northwest from March 28th through the 31st.
- Flooding and Heavy Rain in Idaho, June 12 to 13, 2022Another trough system brought a round of slow moving stratiform slow moving showers. With the abundant amount of precipitation from earlier in the month, the streams and creeks were already near bank full.
- Flood and Heavy Rain in Idaho, March 16, 2017An atmospheric river brought several inches of rainfall to central Idaho which was already soaked from previous rains. This contributed to mudslides that shut down roads and flooding that affected residences and property.
- Flooding in Idaho, March 13 to 31, 2018A return to heavy mountain snows in late February and early March added significantly to the snow pack especially in the Upper Snake River Highlands and snow melt and heavy rains occurred sporadically from the middle of the month onward.
- Flooding in Idaho, May 1 to 31, 2017The Boise River continued to be in flood during the entire month of May due to planned release at Lucky Peak.
- Debris Flow and Flooding in Idaho, March 30 to 31, 2011A stationary trough of low pressure off the Pacific Northwest Coast steered a deep fetch of subtropical moisture into the Idaho Panhandle which persisted from March 29th through early April.
- Flooding in Idaho, March 5 to 6, 2014The region was under a transitioning weather regime through the first week of March. March 1st came in dry and very cold under a modified Arctic air mass. This kept soil temperatures below freezing across much of the central to northern Idaho Panhandle.
- Flood in Idaho, November 7 to 8, 2006Very heavy rains with a foot of rain in two days over the mountains led to flooding in portions of Bonner county. Estimated dollar damage amount to roads was estimated to be 2 million dollars.
- Flood in Idaho, June 1 to 28, 2023Flooding due to the rise of the Big Wood River due to snowmelt and spring rains flooded parts of Hailey including War Eagle Drive, Flat Top Road, and Camp Creek Road. Damages were estimated at 1.9 million dollars on Flat Top Road and Camp Creek Road.
