(This afternoon through Sunday) Issued at 1155 AM CST Sat Jan 31 2026 It's been a rather frigid morning across the region in the wake of last night's cold front. Temperatures are currently in the low to mid 20s in North Texas and in the upper 20s to mid 30s in Central Texas. A cold afternoon is expected, with highs only topping out in the 30s for most areas under mostly sunny skies. Fortunately, the breezy winds this morning are on a weakening trend, with wind speeds decreasing to 5 to 10 mph this afternoon. Another cold night is on tap for the region, with overnight lows dropping into the upper teens to mid 20s areawide. Southerly winds will return overnight, allowing temperatures to moderate on Sunday. Afternoon highs will be quite a bit warmer, topping out in the upper 40s across eastern North and Central Texas to low 60s across the Big Country. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through next Friday) Issued at 1155 AM CST Sat Jan 31 2026 A brief warming trend will continue on Monday, with afternoon temperatures returning to the 60s areawide. An upper level trough will dig into the Southern Plains/Midwest on Tuesday, which will usher a surface low towards the Mississippi Valley. Its attendant cold front will sweep through the region Tuesday morning through the afternoon. Isolated to scattered showers and perhaps a couple thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of the front, mainly east of the I-35/35E corridor. Rain chances will end from north to south with the arrival of the front during the afternoon. Severe weather is not expected. Slightly cooler temperatures will filter into the region behind the front through mid-week, but a significant cool-down is not expected with this front. Afternoon highs will be in the 50s and 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. Most of the effects of the cold front will likely be felt during the morning hours, with a couple of chilly mornings in the upper 20s and 30s on Wednesday and Thursday. Another warming trend will close out the work week Thursday and Friday, with afternoon temperatures returning to the 60s and 70s. There will be no chances for rain beyond Tuesday. && .AVIATION...
