Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 400 PM PDT Mon Apr 27 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Light showers and isolated thunderstorms continue today across the southern Great Basin with breezy southwest winds elsewhere. * Warming trend expected through the week with a slight chance of light showers Wednesday night into Thursday and again on Sunday. && .DISCUSSION...Today through Monday. The southern Great Basin experienced light-to-moderate rain showers yesterday afternoon, with rain gauges measuring 0.25 to 0.50 across Esmeralda, southern Nye, and Lincoln counties. A few embedded thunderstorms allowed for occasionally higher rainfall amounts. A similar story can be expected across the southern Great Basin this afternoon as another burst of energy pushes through the forecast area along the upper-level flow. Otherwise, expect breezy southwest winds across the region with gust speeds generally between 20 and 30 mph. Ridging sets up over the southwestern CONUS here forward, which will allow temperatures to climb to 6-8 degrees above seasonal normals by the end of the work week. We have been monitoring the potential for unsettled weather returning to the region thanks to a closed low pressure system moving into Baja California Wednesday night into Thursday. Ensemble means show this incoming weather system trending weaker and further south, with now negligible chances of precipitation across the bulk of our forecast area. Slight (10-20 percent) PoPs persist for far southern Mojave County, but with PWATs generally less than 0.40", much in the way of measurable precipitation is unlikely. Heading into the weekend, temperatures will continue to increase under mostly clear skies. The next potential weather system to impact our forecast area will drop down the California Coast late-weekend into early next week. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package... Breezy southwesterly winds will continue into this evening with speeds of 10 to 15 knots and gusts 20 to 25 knots. Winds are expected to diminish after 02z, but there is a possibility that a brief (1-2 hour) northwest push will make it to KLAS between 02-03z with speeds around 10 knots. The more likely scenario will be for winds to become more westerly (250-270 deg) before settling around 220 deg overnight. Lighter winds are expected Tuesday, although the direction will likely favor east to southeast with speeds generally less than 8 knots. FEW clouds around 10-12kft over the higher terrain Tuesday afternoon. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Gusty west winds will persist across the western Mojave Desert, with KDAG seeing gusts of 25 to 30 knots. Winds will gradually diminish after 08z to around 10 knots. Elsewhere, breezy south to southwest winds will continue through the evening with gusts 15 to 25 knots, with winds diminishing to 10 knots or less. Scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm remain possible into this evening over the northern Owens Valley and southern Great Basin through 03z.
