Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX Issued by National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 937 AM CDT Sun Jun 15 2025 ...New UPDATE... .KEY MESSAGES... - Showers and thunderstorms are possible across the eastern half of the area this morning and afternoon. - Seasonably hot temperatures are expected in the first half of next week, but could trend a few degrees lower in the latter part of the week. - Mainly a dry forecast first half of the week, with some low rain chances in the second half. && .UPDATE... Issued at 931 AM CDT Sun Jun 15 2025 A mesoscale convective system (MCS) is moving south into the Big Country this morning. This MCS is forecast to continue to track south across the area through the afternoon hours, mainly affecting the eastern half of the forecast area. PoPs were expanded south to include most of the Big Country and Heartland. Will have to monitor trends, but PoPs might need to be pulled west a bit more, depending on the eventual track of the MCS. Highs this afternoon were left alone for now, but might need to trend highs in the Big Country down some later today. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 223 AM CDT Sun Jun 15 2025 Upper-level ridging will remain the dominant feature across the area through the next 24 hours and beyond, and will help to keep drier conditions and continue the upward trend in temperatures. A mesoscale convective system (MCS) has formed over central Oklahoma and is tracking southward, with CAMS showing it reaching the Big Country by late this morning into early this evening. There remains uncertainty on how far west and south this MCS will extend, although the CAMS are indicating at least some showers and thunderstorms getting into our eastern counties today. High temperatures for today will reach into the mid to upper 90s, with overnight lows expected in the low to mid 70s. && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Saturday) Issued at 1209 AM CDT Sun Jun 15 2025 West central Texas will remain under the northeast corner of an upper-level ridge for the start of the upcoming week. This should result in continued warm and sunny conditions across the area for Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures for most locations should reach the mid to upper 90s with perhaps even triple digits for much of the Big Country and western Concho Valley. By midweek, the ridge will shift westward to southern California and will allow heights to lower across Texas. A few shortwave troughs should traverse the region on Wednesday and Thursday. As a result of these features, temperatures should be several degrees lower. There is also a low to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms for Wednesday night, mainly over the Big Country. Towards the end of the week, model consensus shows the upper ridge shifting back over the southern Plains while an inverted trough moves westward out of the gulf into south Texas. Overall warm temperatures will likely continue but the inverted trough could bring an increase in moisture and cloud cover. Models also show a low to medium chance for rain over the Edwards Plateau and the Hill Country. && .AVIATION...
