This will bring strong subsidence to the region which will shut down any rain chances through the short term period, as 598 dam heights build overhead. The result will be mostly clear skies and a steady warming trend as highs reach the upper 90s today, with an increasing number of triple-digit readings on Tuesday. Despite the increase in temperatures, fairly aggressive mixing of dewpoints will keep heat index values from getting out of hand, although heat indices of 105-108 will become increasingly common across parts of North and East Texas during the first half of the workweek. A Heat Advisory will be in effect for areas roughly from the DFW Metroplex north and east today and Tuesday, while areas to the southwest will see heat index values hold within the 100-105 range. -Stalley && .LONG TERM... /Issued 105 AM CDT Mon Jul 28 2025/ /Wednesday Onward/ The upper ridge will reach its peak strength on Wednesday and Thursday which will result in increasingly widespread triple-digit highs. While moisture will continue to mix aggressively with dewpoints falling into the mid 60s and even upper 50s across the west, the hot temperatures will still allow many areas to reach Heat Advisory criteria, and additional headlines will almost certainly be needed into the mid/late week period. By Friday, the ridge will continue to retrograde westward, and will eventually shift off to our northwest. In response, increased troughing across the Great Lakes region will send a backdoor cold front southward through portions of the Midwest and Mississippi Valley on Friday and Saturday. This boundary could initiate convection to our north as early as Friday afternoon which would have a tendency to build southward into North Texas, and perhaps eventually push the frontal zone or effective frontal zone into the CWA as well. While this boundary would not contain a noticeable temperature/moisture contrast, it could shave a few degrees off of high temperatures due to an attendant increase in cloud cover and diurnally driven convective activity.
