Mid-level heights will continue to increase today as a ridge
builds over the area. Southerly winds will continue to advect
warm, moist air over the southern Plains. Afternoon highs will be
in the upper 90s to low 100s across the entire CWA. A heat
advisory is in effect today from noon to 8 PM as heat indices will
get up to 107 F across most of the area. Roughly the western
third of the area will be a little bit drier, so may not have heat
indices upwards of 105 F. Not much recovery is expected tonight
with overnight lows only dipping down to the mid to upper 70s.

The center of the aforementioned ridge will be right overhead
this weekend, providing prolonged heat across the entire area.
Afternoon highs will continue to be in the mid to upper 90s, with
heat indices upwards of 105 F. Heat indices across south central
Oklahoma may even exceed 110 F. Needless to say, additional heat
headlines will be likely during this timeframe. Overnight lows
will not provide too much relief, with lows in the upper 70s
expected. A south wind will persist during this timeframe, and dry
conditions expected.

An area of low pressure near the Yucatan Peninsula is being
monitored by the National Hurricane Center. Although tropical
formation is unlikely, a few models track this weak disturbance
into northern Texas on Sunday. A weak shortwave embedded within
the broader ridge may help to bring additional rain chances into
the area later in the weekend into early next week. The mid-level
ridge will retreat back to the west by Tuesday/Wednesday,
potentially providing additional rain chances and a slight cool
down across portions of the area. In this weak mid-level flow
regime, any changes to the pattern will dictate
showers/thunderstorm chances, in addition to any frontal
boundaries. We will continue to monitor how these changes impact
the long term forecast.
