Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 909 PM MDT Sat May 31 2025 .DISCUSSION...Boise tied its all time record high in May with 100F this afternoon, this is only the second time in 150 years of records Boise has hit 100F in May. A cold front is tracking across the Lower Treasure Valley this evening and moving southeastward. Wind gusts up to 47 mph reported near Huntington OR. Ontario briefly reported visibilities down to 2 miles as the front moved through with gusts to 40 mph. This front will track across the Boise metro over the next hour toward the Magic Valley late this evening with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. The strongest winds will be focused along the Snake River. Temperatures on Sunday afternoon will be around 15-20 degrees cooler than today with breezy northwest winds continuing through the day. Current forecast reflects this well with no updates planned. && .AVIATION...Mainly VFR. Patchy blowing dust reducing visibility this evening/overnight. High density altitude decreasing overnight. Surface Winds: NW 10-20 kt gusting to 20-35 kt this evening/overnight. Gusts up to 45-50 kt between KBKE-KONO and near KMUO tonight. Winds aloft at 10kft MSL: W-SW 10-20 kt. KBOI...VFR. SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday night...A cold front is poised to move through the area tonight, entering Baker County around 5 PM PDT, and exiting to our around sunrise Sunday. Light showers may accompany the front in Valley County. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Lower Treasure Valley of Oregon for this evening and overnight. Wind gusts to 50 mph are likely from Ontario to the west and northwest. While no advisory is in place for Baker County, the strongest winds will stretch just up into the southeast corner so folks there should prepare as if an advisory is in place. Blowing dust may occur along and for a few hours after frontal passage in lower elevations, but it is not expected to reduce visibilities below 2 miles. Otherwise, today is the hot day we have been forecasting for days, and it's working out as expected. Records will be set this afternoon. Sunday will be 15 to 20 degrees cooler, but still above average for the date. SCattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast along the eastern edge of the CWA in the mountains (generally from Yellow Pine south to Lowman and then southeast of Atlanta), and also in southern Twin Falls County and far southeast Owyhee County for Sunday afternoon, continuing into the evening in the Owyhee and Twin Falls areas (but not in the mountains). The remainder of Sunday night through Monday night will be dry and breezy. Monday's temps will be just a couple degrees above normal. LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday...The forecast area will become sandwiched between strong high pressure over the eastern Pacific, and low pressure over the northern US. As a result, northwest flow will dominate aloft for SW Idaho and SE Oregon Tuesday through Friday. Intermittent shortwave troughs will migrate through the northwest flow, but limited moisture has kept the probability of afternoon showers and thunderstorms at or below 15 percent. Temperatures are forecast to be slightly above normal through Wednesday, but a warming trend is expected toward the end of the week as heights begin to rise.
