Additional snowfall of 3 to 6 inches possible in northwest Vilas county, with the most significant accumulations occurring Sunday night into Monday morning. - Wind chills of 5 to 10 degrees below zero are expected across north central and parts of central Wisconsin late tonight into Sunday morning. - A clipper system brings light snow late Tuesday into Wednesday, followed by strong northwest winds, colder temperatures/wind chills and lake-effect snow Wednesday night into Thursday. Gales possible on Lake Michigan. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 315 PM CST Sat Nov 30 2024 Forecast concerns include another round of lake-effect snow for north central WI through Monday, minor accumulations with a clipper system late Tuesday into Wednesday, followed by another shot of cold air, strong northwest winds and more lake-effect for NC WI Wednesday night into Thursday. After a brief respite in the NC WI lake-effect due to drier air, westerly surface winds and strong low-level shear, expect conditions to become more favorable again for the rest of the weekend into Monday. Low-level winds will gradually veer NW, then NNW, with persistent lake-H8 delta-t's in the 18-20 C range, and periodic enhancement from short-wave troughs. One wave, currently sagging south from southern Manitoba/Ontario in northern Minnesota, will move through the region later tonight into Sunday morning. The best set-up occurs Sunday night into Monday morning, when low-level winds turn NNW and a well-defined short-wave moves through. Have adjusted model blended pops/QPF/snowfall upward by blending in some RAP/CONSHORT. Additional accumulations of 3-6 inches are possible in northwest Vilas County, with 2-4 inches of that falling during the Sunday night/early Monday period. Since we're still 24+ hours out, will let the midnight shift take another look and decide if a headline is needed for Vilas County. A ridge of high pressure will arrive Monday night, causing winds to back west and shut down the lake-effect. As this high shifts east on Tuesday, developing WAA will cause light snow to develop over the northwest part of the forecast later Tuesday. A clipper system will track north of the region Tuesday night into Wednesday, but WAA on Tuesday night and short-wave/jet energy on Wednesday will bring light accumulations of an inch or two to parts of the region, especially over the northeast half of GRB CWA. As this system departs, strong northwest winds will bring a another shot of colder air into the region. This will bring wind chills as cold at 10 to 15 below zero to NC/C WI Thursday morning. Lake-effect snow showers and possible accumulations will also return to NC WI. && .AVIATION...for 06Z TAF Issuance Issued at 916 PM CST Sat Nov 30 2024 Cloud cover and snow flurries will increase from north to south across the area tonight, as an upper level trough moves across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Snow flurries and lake effect snow showers will continue across north central Wisconsin Sunday, with scattered snow flurries elsewhere. MVFR ceilings are likely north of a RRL to IMT line, and north of SUE across the Door peninsula.
