.UPDATE...
Issued at 856 PM CST Tue Dec 10 2024
No significant changes to the forecast this evening. Main story
will be the winds as secondary cold air advection will keep temps
falling and winds gusty through the night. 70H trough is expected
to move across tonight and this should help scatter out any clouds
that remain by morning.

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Thursday night)
Issued at 250 PM CST Tue Dec 10 2024
A cold front has cleared the Atchafalaya this afternoon with remnant
precipitation over the Mississippi Delta accelerating toward central
/ eastern Gulf coast. Reinforcing cold air advection and a stronger
surface front will move off the west Gulf Coast overnight increasing
winds out of the Northwest. Offshore conditions are likely to become
hazardous to small craft and other sensitive vessels as Gale force
conditions are expected along the 20-60nm waters through tomorrow
mid morning. Worth noting lakes, bays, and nearshore 0-20nm waters
are under a small craft advisory where conditions are also expected
to become rough. Temperatures will drop significantly from this
afternoon toward the 30's for interior locations and low 40's along
the coast.
Meanwhile a downstream strong low pressure over New England will
slow before deepening north into Canada. The result will be
furthered speed convergence aloft over the central and southern
Plains throughout Wednesday strengthening the surface high pressure
migrating south over SETX by Wednesday night. Conditions will remain
dry at the surface and mainly clear. Thursday, the high pressure
cell overhead broadens toward the SECONUS while remaining quite
robust as it evolves south of strong low in Canada. Winds will gain
ESE components allowing some return Gulf moisture to filter inland.
Signals for precipitation remain near zero, however, cold air aloft
may support some low level cloud cover.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through next Monday)
Issued at 250 PM CST Tue Dec 10 2024
By Friday, the high pressure cell shifts north along the Carolina
Coast, putting SETX and SWLA in more favorable southeasterly fetch
from the Gulf. An upstream trof, deepens along the Colorado Rockies
Thursday evening reaching the central plains Friday. This region of
low pressure broadly extending south through Tx will abut the former
high pressure pattern along the SECONUS to facilitate some gradient
winds as onshore southeasterlies that strengthen. Daytime highs will
begin to "recover" toward our +5° above climatological norms, as
temperatures climbing back toward upper 60's / lower 70's by
Saturday. Basis latest model analysis and guidance, the
aforementioned upstream low pressure will continue to organize
toward the lower Great Lakes region with a weaker frontal system
extending south over the plains. Thus, while there is some moisture
availability, lack of low level dynamics clue that this system will
not produce much precipitation through Sunday. The pattern then
becomes a bit unsettled into early next work week regarding
precipitation, however, the broadscale pattern continues to support
southerly advection across the area, keeping temperatures above
average through the middle of December.

(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1124 PM CST Tue Dec 10 2024
Gusty Northwesterly winds will continue through the early morning
before gradually diminishing through the day as high pressure
begins to settle into the region from the west. MVFR ceilings
continue at LFT and ARA at this hour but should clear by 07Z with
VFR conditions to prevail area wide thereafter. Clear skies and
light northerly winds will prevail Wednesday night.

.MARINE...
Issued at 250 PM CST Tue Dec 10 2024
Northeast winds continue to strengthen this evening as reinforcing
cold air advection builds winds and seas tonight. A small craft
advisory is in place over the lakes, bays, and nearshore 0-20nm
waters through the morning hours. Further offshore along the
20-60nm waters a Gale Warning is in place during the overnight
hours where stronger winds / gusts are expected to remain
higher. Gusts will east Wednesday afternoon and evening with winds
veering easterly by Thursday morning.
