The episode as NWS RAH wrote it up.

An area of low pressure over the lower Ohio Valley tracked into the Mid-Atlantic states along a stalled frontal boundary over Virginia. These storm cells at times produced damaging wind reports, including downed trees, as well as flash flooding across Sampson, Wake, Durham, and Franklin Counties. Storm activity waned by the late evening hours.
