A wildfire broke out at around 1 PM CDT on October 7th in the vicinity of Old highway 83 and Zlomke road south-southeast of North Platte. Aided by southerly winds, the fire tracked quickly to the north-northeast it burned approximately 725 acres of mixed grass and cedar trees. Five homesteads were evacuated along State Farm Road between Newberry Access and Shack Road. A total of 13 fire departments aided in the fire and aerial support was brought in to aid in fire suppression. Evacuation orders were lifted by mid afternoon and the fire was contained around 6 PM CDT. No structures were damaged in the fire and the fire was confined to pasture and canyon ground.
