A pretty typical summertime convective setup was in place with a cold front decaying as it reached southern Louisiana and Mississippi while daytime highs were in the mid to upper 90s. Robust updrafts were abundant from high low level moisture, very warm surface temperatures and low level lift from the stalling frontal boundary.

The resultant thunderstorms produced severe hail and damaging wind gusts. 2 homes were also damaged by lightning strikes.

Local broadcast media news story showed that a tree fell onto a house and car on Shadybrook Drive near Sherwood Forest Boulevard after being struck by lightning. No reports of injuries. Time was estimated by a combination of radar and lightning data.
