Extreme heat started September 3 and continued through September 10, 2024. The hottest days were September 5 to 8, when high temperatures reached 105 to 114F across the entire Inland Empire. Despite scattered thunderstorms on September 7 and 8th, the high temperatures were still around 110F at many locations in the Inland Empire.

High temperatures were excessive in the Coachella Valley from September 4 to 9, 2024. The hottest day was observed on September 5th, when maximum temperatures were 115F at several locations including climate sites such as Palm Springs and Borrego Springs.

High temperature reached a record 112 in Anaheim on September 6, 2024. The heat wave lasted through September 9th with high temperatures of 104 to 113F across inland Orange County. A woman and a child were found in a locked vehicle on September 6th. The child died at the hospital. Authorities reported the air temperature at 104 when they arrived at 420 pm. Authorities reported that alcohol was involved and the mother of the child was later arrested. 112 exceeds the prior all-time high temperature at Anaheim which was 109 set in September 2020.
