Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 337 PM MST Tue Aug 6 2024 .SYNOPSIS...The monsoon continues with daily chances for showers and thunderstorms continuing through the weekend. Temperatures will remain above normal with light winds outside of storms. && .DISCUSSION...Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across northern Arizona today...mostly over the higher terrain. Storms will decrease this evening...but not end as few showers and thunderstorms are possible through the night. The general pattern will continue through Thursday...The high pressure remains nearly stationary with only some slight wobbling to the west. The easterly wave will continue to move westerly across southern Arizona and northern Mexico. This will bring fairly active weather days across northern and central Arizona. Friday through the weekend...The high will start to shift back to the east late in the week and over the weekend. This will help to drag the easterly wave around the western edge of the high and will bring in a bit of drier air into the region. This will bring a slight downturn in activity through this period. Should the high not shift as far to the east as currently anticipated, there may not be as much of downturn in activity. Temperatures will remain above average through this period so take appropriate precautions if spending time outdoors. && .AVIATION...Wednesday 07/00Z through Thursday 08/00Z...Scattered showers/thunderstorms before 03Z, especially south of a KGCN- KINW-KSJN line. Isolated activity further north. MVFR conditions and gusty winds up to 50 kts possible in and around stronger storms. Isolated showers linger through the night. Otherwise, VFR conditions outside of storms with variable winds 5-10 kts. A similar round of showers/storms Wednesday afternoon. OUTLOOK...Thursday 08/00Z through Saturday 10/00Z...Scattered showers/thunderstorms each afternoon/evening with reduced visibility and gusty winds possible in and around heavy showers and stronger storms. Otherwise, VFR conditions with light winds at 5-10 kts. && .FIRE WEATHER...This evening through Thursday...Daily showers and thunderstorms will continue. Winds will be variable in direction... 10-20 mph in the afternoons away from any gusty/erratic thunderstorms winds. Friday through Sunday...Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms will continue, along with mostly above average temperatures each afternoon. unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
