(Tonight through Friday night) Issued at 119 PM CDT Thu May 18 2023 Expect a quiet start to the short term period. Lows in the upper 60s/low 70s will prevail in most spots, with mid-70s possible along the Rio Grande. Some patchy fog is possible over the Coastal Plains, Victoria Crossroads, and Brush Country near daybreak tomorrow. Slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow for extra following distance if encountering reduced visibilities while driving tomorrow morning. An isolated thunderstorm can't be ruled out tomorrow evening in the Rio Grande Plains and portions of Brush Country. Expect the best chances to hold off until Saturday/the beginning of the long term. While storm chances are overall low, an isolated strong to severe storm with large hail and damaging winds can't be ruled out over this portion of South Texas tomorrow evening and night. The Storm Prediction Center continues to include far northern portions of the Rio Grande Plains and Brush Country in a marginal (level 1/5) risk for severe thunderstorms in light of this potential. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through next Wednesday) Issued at 119 PM CDT Thu May 18 2023 Currently evident to our north in the Central Plains, a cold front will gradually sag south into the state through the short term and into the weekend. The boundary is forecast to stall in our vicinity late Saturday and into Sunday. Said boundary, along with any subtle impulses embedded within the flow aloft, will support the best shower and thunderstorm chances over the next seven days Saturday night/Sunday morning. Severe weather appears unlikely at this time, however, 1.5"+ precipitable water values pooling along the boundary could support heavy downpours and minor flooding impacts in this activity. The Weather Prediction Center highlights areas along the Rio Grande in a level 1 out of 4 risk of excessive rainfall in its day three/Saturday Excessive Rainfall Outlook in light of this potential. Shower and storm chances are expected to wane by late Sunday/early Monday as the stalled surface front washes out. A dry forecast prevails from Monday through the remainder of the long term period. Southeast winds off the Gulf of Mexico will support high temperatures in the low-mid 80s over the Coastal Bend and Victoria Crossroads with warmer readings in the low-mid 90s across Brush Country and the Rio Grande Plains.
