We continue to have scattered showers and a distinct band of
showers with an embedded thunderstorm or two move northwest across
South Texas. This is activity is mainly confined south and west
of I-37 in association with the moisture axis Tropical Depression
Harold continues to drag along as it moves northwestward into West
Texas today. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will
continue through this morning but will shift westward through the
day as Harold moves westward and a ridge builds into the area
dropping moisture and PWAT values below normal (~ 1.5").
Clearing skies in the afternoon in combination of dewpoints in the
mid 70s to around 90 will allow for dangerous levels of heat to
return. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid 90s along
the Coastal Bend up to 100 near Victoria and cause heat index
values of 110 or greater this afternoon. Temperatures will be
heavily dependent on sky coverage and if it takes longer for skies
to clear, it could make it difficult for temperatures to climb
into the mid 90s. However, there is generally good model agreement
with the timing of drier and subsident air. A Heat Advisory is in
effect for the Coastal Bend, Victoria and Jim Wells Counties this
afternoon.
Expect drier air to take over and rain activity dissipated after
9 PM this evening. Mostly clear skies, light and variable winds,
upper 70s dewpoints, and wet soils, will likely lead to patchy to
areas of fog across the Coastal Plains late tonight into early
Thursday morning. Max temperatures will climb a few more degrees
on Thursday under mostly sunny skies but dewpoints are expected to
decrease a few degrees as well. Either way, heat index values
around 110 are possible on Thursday across portions of the Coastal
Plains. There is some evidence that outer positive vorticity bands
from a possible TUTT low over the Bay of Campeche on Thursday
could bring lift support near the Victoria Crossroads, but with
moisture near or below normal kept with silent PoPs.

It shouldn't come as a surprise, but mid-level ridging is back in
place for the long term period. After our brief relief from the hot
temperatures, temperatures will be back into the upper 90s and lower
100s for much of the area by the weekend and into next week. We
will have a shot at some showers and storms, especially near the
coast Friday into Saturday as an inverted trough approaches the
coast. Most of activity with this wave is likely to be south of our
area, but should have at least isolated to scattered showers and
storms, mainly near the coast.

Expect mostly VFR conditions to continue through this evening and
into the overnight hours before becoming MVFR/IFR tomorrow morning
due to lower ceilings and/or fog. Clear skies and abundant low
level moisture with very light winds may lead to some patchy to
areas of dense fog therefore LIFR conditions are possible briefly
mainly at ALI/VCT. Otherwise, mainly light winds and VFR
conditions are expected for the rest of the TAF period.

Weak to moderate winds of 10 to 15 knots over the coastal waters
through this evening, will become light and variable late tonight
through Thursday. Seas will continue to subside below 6 feet
today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible
through Wednesday morning. As ridging builds back in, expect
mainly light winds through the weekend and into early next week.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the
weekend.
