Hurricane Idalia made landfall Wednesday morning August 30th around 745 AM EDT along the|Florida Big Bend near Keaton Beach as a category 3, with the inner core moving NE across the|Suwannee River Valley. The inner wind core of Idalia gradually weakened through the morning while,|heavily impacting Suwannee and Hamilton counties in NE Florida and Echols county SE Georgia as the|circulation tracked NE. Widespread tree, power line and structure damage occurred across Suwannee|and Hamilton counties, with estimated winds of 80-100 mph based on damage surveys with isolated|pockets of peak wind gusts near major hurricane strength. Outer rainbands on the eastside of Idalia|impacted all of SE Georgia and NE FL through the day, with early morning tornadoes across coastal SE|Georgia and widespread tropical cyclone wind gusts through the day causing tree damage and power|line damage at least somewhere across NE Florida and SE Georgia. Measured gusts during the peak of|the hurricane acorss the local forecast area were 60-80 mph. Flooding rainfall impacted locations in|the direct path of the weakening inner core across the Suwannee River Valley and southeast Georgia,|especially from eastern Hamilton county toward Baxley and Jesup GA. The peak rainfall amounts were|up to 5-8 inches. At least 3 tornadoes occurred in southeast GA as rainbands swept northwestward|ahead of the hurricane.

High instability remains over the area well ahead of the arrival
of Hurricane Idalia, and has resulted in areas of convection this
afternoon over southeast GA with an associated banding feature.
These storms have already produced very heavy rains and gusty
winds at times, and this will remain possible through this
evening. Further bands will continue to pinwheel northward from
southwest FL through this evening as well, with these bands just
about to enter Marion County as of 21Z into the unstable airmass
in northeast FL. Although some weakening will occur after sunset,
this band of thunderstorms could certainly produce some strong
wind gusts over southern parts of the area, with a quick spin up
tornado also not out of the question given the approaching
environment. As this weakens and moves into southeast GA, most of
the area will likely get a break for at least a few hours
overnight before the main bulk of the precip shield of Idalia
approaches early Wednesday Morning.

The forecast for Idalia continues to be for the system to
strengthen into a major hurricane just prior to landfall Wednesday
Morning. Although guidance and the official forecast has nudged
further northwest with a landfall forecast to be near Taylor
County, the potential still remains for a very compact area of
major hurricane force conditions near the immediate eye wall over
extreme western Suwannee and Gilchrist Counties before the
hurricane weakens to below major status. Thereafter, Idalia is
forecast to continue quick progress northeastward towards and
across southeastern GA through Wednesday evening, with these areas
having the highest chance of observing sustained hurricane force
winds during this time frame. Further products with details for
these risks, as well as flooding and storm surge, can be found in
our Hurricane Idalia briefing as well as with many products with
the NHC. However, the bottom line is that the highest threat with
this particular storm will be a wind threat due to the fast
forward motion of hurricane. Although sustained winds will drop
off rather significantly moving away from the inner core of the
system, strong gusts at times will still be expected moving
towards southeast portions of the CWA with associated rain bands.
The primary circulation with Idalia will move out of our area and
towards the Carolinas Wednesday Night and into the Overnight
hours, which will gradually subside our winds, but associated rain
as a dry slot wraps into most of the region into Thursday. Rain
chances will still exist to an extent on Thursday with a surface
trough lingering, especially over southern areas. Though some
daytime heating should bring at least a slight chance north of
I-10 as well. Rain chances continue to diminish into Thursday
Night with some drier air allowing some temps below 70 degrees to
likely occur over interior southeast GA.

A quieter period is expected from the end of the work week and into
next week. With an upper level ridge building over the area,
drier air is expected to filter into the area. This will lead to
rainfall chances remaining low over the weekend and into early
next week. Temperatures are expected to be seasonal with highs
ranging from the upper 80s to mid 90s across the area with
overnight lows in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

Line of strong storms will impact all of the NE FL TAF sites
through 02Z, while just a few VCSH at SSI this evening, then a
brief lull in activity with just VCSH through 06Z then increasing
winds and downward trend in CIGS/VSBYS as bands from Idalia push
in from the SW and across all TAF sites through the remainder of
the period and have trended towards winds of 35-45 knots from the
South in the morning then becoming Southwest by the afternoon
hours in the 18-24Z time frame. Have gone with basic SHRA with
some embedded storms (VCTS) as rain bands continue to pass across
the TAF sites through the period.

resulting in increasing waves ahead of Hurricane Idalia. Idalia
is expected to further intensify as it move northward and turn
north/northwestward as it approaches the Big Bend region of

the northwestern FL peninsula into south- central GA Wednesday,
and then eastern SC and offshore Wednesday night and Thursday.

A public weather station along Lee Avenue measured 4.62 inches of storm total rainfall thus far in Douglas.
A public rain gage measured 4.84 inches of storm total rainfall thus far. Several other reports of 4-5 inches were measured within the city limits of Alma, as well as from Alma to Nicholls to Douglas.
A public rain gage measured 7.65 inches of storm total rainfall thus far along Pitty Pat Lane. Numerous other rain gages across Baxley measured 6-7 inches of rainfall.
A weather station along New Hope Church Road measured 5.53 inches of storm total rainfall thus far.
Tropical storm force wind gusts and flash flooding impacted the county on 8/30. At 1400, the EM relayed|that numerous roads were flooded in Baxley along Brobston Street, Tippins Street and South Dean Street. By|1444, a public rain gauge along Pitty Pat Lane just NNE of Baxley measured storm total rainfall of 7.65 inches.|Numerous other rain gauges across Baxley measured 6-7 inches around this time. By 1500, flash flooding|occurred along Brobston Street with several homes inundated with flood water and along Tippins and South|Dean streets with businesses inundated with flood water. At 1615, a 40 mph wind gust was measured at the|AWOS station at the Baxley Airport.
Tropical cyclone winds and flooding rainfall impacted the county on 8/30. Numerous trees were blown down|on roadways. There were widespread power outages and localized flooding that washed out several roads.|Multiple homes were damaged, one home was destroyed due to fallen trees. Widespread powerline|entanglement. The EM rain gauge measured 5.9 inches of rain in Pearson, but it likely malfunctioned. The|last recorded wind gust of Idalia at that EM weather station was 62 mph.
Tropical storm force wind gusts and flash flooding impacted the county on 8/30. At 1232 am, a 41 mph wind|gust was measured at the ASOS station at the Bacon County Airport. By 1316, a public rain gauge measured|4.84 inches of storm total rainfall about 3 miles NNW of Alma. Several other reports of 4-5 inches fell within|the city limits of Alma. Numerous gauges measured 4-5 inches of rainfall from Alma to Nichols to Douglas|near the Highway 32 corridor. By 1325, a public weather gauge about 7 miles north of Alma along New Hope|Church Road measured 5.53 inches of storm total rainfall. At 1522, the ASOS at the Bacon County Airport|measured a 47 mph (KAMG) then at 1553 the ASOS measured a 56 mph wind gust.
Tropical cyclone winds impacted the county on 8/30. Most noted tropical storm force wind damage occurred|NNE to ESE of Nahunta between Highway 301 and Waynesville during the late morning into the evening. An|NWS Storm Survey reported some trees were blown down along Post Road in the NE portion of the county|due to tropical storm force winds. Hardwood trees were snapped and uprooted along Highway 82 east of|Nahunta as well as along adjoining side roads Knox Road and Pembroke Road. Tree damage extended north|of Nahunta along Laurel Road where several small hardwood trees were snapped and larger trees were|uprooted. A local mentioned a tree had fallen onto a powerline in the area.|At 1150, a mesonet site at the EMA office in Hortense measured a wind gust of 40 mph. At 1245, a mesonet|site in Nahunta measured a wind gust of 40 mph. At 1400, the EMA office in Hoboken measured a wind gust|of 51 mph. The EM reported that Hoboken Elementary school suffered significant roof damage. At 1445, the|mesonet site in Nahunta measured a wind gust of 42 mph. At 1450, a mesonet site measured a wind gust of|55 in Hoboken.
On 8/29 at 1403, a funnel cloud was reported about 2 miles NNE of Kingsland.|Tropical cyclone winds impacted the county on 8/30. At 1245, a mesonet station about 3 miles W of|Woodbine measured a wind gust of 40 mph. At 1401, a mesonet site at the Camden County Welcome Center|near GA Highway 356 and Interstate 95 measured a wind gust of 50 mph. At 1425, broadcast media reported|a tree fell onto a powerline which triggered a fire in the attic of the Episcopal Diocese of GA Retreat Center.|At 1515, a mesonet station about 3 miles W of Woodbine measured a wind gust of 44 mph. Evacuations were ordered for|Zone A in Camden County, which consists of|Cumberland Island and Little Cumberland Island.
Tropical cyclone winds impacted the county on 8/30. At 1210, a RAWS station in the Okefenokee NWR|measured a wind gust of 47 mph (Oke-NW). At 1435, a mesonet station measured a wind gust of 43 mph|about 2 miles NE of Folkston.
Tropical cyclone winds and flooding rainfall impacted the county on 8/30. Winds were estimated at|sustained 50 to 60 mph with gusts 60 to 75 mph. A large upper part of a live oak tree was snapped and|landed on the roof of a house. The worst damage in the county occurred in Homerville, GA. At 1131, the EM|reported a tree fell down on a mobile home about 2 miles NE of DuPont.
Tropical cyclone winds and flooding rainfall impacted the county on 8/30. Most wind impacts occurred to|trees and mobile homes. At 1215, the AWOS station KDQH at the Douglas Municipal Airport measured a|wind gust of 52 mph. At 1231, the emergency management (EM) team reported a tree was blown down|onto a mobile home about 4 miles ESE of Douglas. At 1234, the EM team reported another tree was blown|down across the mobile home about 5 miles SSW of Douglas. At 1307, a public rain gauge along Peachtree|Road about 2 miles NNE of Nichols measured a storm total rainfall of 5.16 inches thus far. By 1440, this rain|gauge had measured 7.48 inches of rainfall. At 1313, a public rain gauge along Lee Avenue measured a storm|total rainfall of 4.62 inches thus far about 1 mile NNE of Douglas. At 1415, a mesonet station about 4 miles|ESE of Douglas measured a wind gust of 44 mph. At 1500, this same mesonet station measured a wind gust|of 49 mph.
Tropical cyclone winds and flooding rainfall impacted the county on 8/30. An outbuilding was destroyed in|Statenville. There were numerous pine trees snapped and live oak trees uprooted. Power lines were down.|An NWS Storm Survey determined Statenville experienced sustained winds of 60 to 70 mph with gusts 70 to|80 mph.
Glynn county experienced damage from tropical cyclone winds as well as 3 confirmed tornadoes. Damage|from tropical storm force winds focused across St. Simons Island in the Village where several trees were|damaged from Neptune Park to along Mallery Street and Mallery Park during the afternoon. There was also|some tree damage along Wilder Street. Additional trees were damaged along Crossbrook Drive, Beens Bend|and along Highway 17 just east of the Brunswick Airport.|At 0739, the ASOS at Brunswick McKinnon Airport (KSSI) measured a wind gust of 43 mph. At 1055, the|AWOS station at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport (KBQK) measured a wind gust of 41 mph. At 1133, the|ASOS KSSI measured a wind gust of 52 mph. At 1215, a mesonet site on Jekyll Island measured a wind gust|of 55 mph. At 1353, the ASOS KSSI measured a wind gust of 56 mph. At 1431, the ASOS KSSI measured a|wind gust of 67 mph. At 1435, a storm spotter reported a 8-10 inch diameter tree branch was blown down|during a small wind gusts about 2 miles NNE of Country Club Estates. There were also numerous other|smaller limbs and branches down as well, and at the same time the AWOS KBQK measured a wind gust of 55|mph. At 1553, the ASOS KSSI measured a wind gust of 66 mph.

Tropical cyclone winds impacted the county on 8/30. At 1410, a 48 mph wind gust was measured at a|mesonet station located at GA Highway355 and U.S. Highway 341 about 1 mile NNE of Jesup at State Road|38.
NWS Storm Survey estimated sustained winds of 40 to 60 mph with gusts of 60 to 75 mph on 8/30. There|was extensive tree blown down in a neighborhood southeast of GA State Road 84 and in the Waycross area.|Numerous power lines were blown down. Several well built homes were destroyed due to trees through|them. American Lube Fast business along Memorial Dr. suffered significant damage with the windows blown|through and debris scattered.|At 1115, a mesonet site about 3 miles SSW of Waresboro measured a wind gust of 49 mph. At 1130, a|mesonet site 2 miles WSW of Waycross measured a 41 mph wind gust at the Ware County Recreation|Department. At 1135, the AWOS at the Ware County Airport (KAYS) measured a wind gust of 44 mph. At|1201, A wind gust of 43 mph was measured at a RAWs station (Oke-West) in the Okefenokee NWR. At 1204,|a RAWs station about 2 miles W of Deenwood (OKEG1) measured a wind gust of 53 mph. At 1210, the AWOS|KAYS measured a wind gust of 46 mph. At 1304, the RAWS station OKEG1 measured a wind gust of 56 mph.|At 1315, the public reported an awning was blown off of a government building in Waycross. A large sign 6|feet in diameter next to the building was blown over. At 1320, the mesonet site at the Ware County|Recreation Department measured a wind gust of 48 mph. At 1409, the RAWs station OKEG1 measured a|wind gust of 59 mph. At 1529, the emergency manager stated the Cherokee Heights Subdivision in Waycross|sustained multiple trees down or snapped in half. One tree fell through the roof of a home.
NWS Survey team found evidence of a weak tornado yesterday in southern Glynn |county. This tornado was spawned by outer rain bands from Hurricane Idalia. |This particular tornado began just south of Highway 17 and crossed the highway |around Fancy Bluff with mostly tree damage and downed powerlines, traversing |the area from southeast to northwest. It then crossed through Emanuel |Church Road with tree limbs downed, then shifted a bit more west-northwest |toward Georgetown and near Bladen where large tree branches were downed. |The tree damage supports damage rating of an EF-0 rating with maximum winds |near 70 mph.

|A tornado with peak intensity of EF1 impacted the south and |west sides of the city of Brunswick where trees and some |structures were damaged beginning near Gloucester Street. |The tornado tracked NNW near Newcastle Street, then storm |took more of a NW track near the intersection of Interstate |95 and the New Jesup Highway/US Highway 341. Mainly tree |damage occurred including numerous large limbs and some |large hard wood trees blown down and snapped. There was some |structure damage to mainly outbuildings including sheds |and fences.

A short-lived tornado moved inland across St. Simons Sound and |tracked NNW across the south side of St. Simons Island near |Kings Way where hard wood trees were uprooted. Peak intensity |reach EF1 strength.
Flash flooding occurred within the city of Baxley. Homes and businesses were flooded. Flash flooding occurred along Brobston Street with several homes inundated with flood water and along Tippins and South Dean streets with businesses inundated with flood water.
