.SYNOPSIS...A dry cold front pushes through the state from the
north today, bringing widespread strong and gusty winds with it.
The front should push out of our area later tonight and into
tomorrow morning, leaving some residual breezy winds and cooler
temperatures. Dry conditions with a slow warming trend follows

.SHORT TERM...Today through Saturday morning

A dry cold front drops in from the north and sags through the
state today. While this front isn't bringing any moisture today,
strong winds are going to be seen across the CWA. Blowing dust may
cause periods of reduced visibility, creating hazardous driving
conditions. Cross winds along US 93 in the morning and portions of I
80 in the afternoon could impact high profile vehicles.

While weather is expected to remain dry, a small pocket of
moisture may bring one or two very light snow showers to the
Jarbidge area. While snowfall should only be 0.1" to 0.2", getting
it to stick on the ground will be difficult due to the recent warm
temperatures.

Cooler air moving in later with this front brings afternoon highs
in northern Nevada into the 50s and 60s while central Nevada sees
warmer highs in the 70s and 80s. Afternoon highs on Friday reflect
the cooler air across the CWA with highs in the 50s and 60s.
Coldest spots in northern Elko county are likely to be in the
40s.

.LONG TERM...Saturday through next Wednesday.

It now looks like the longwave trof over the U.S. will be a bit
slower to exit to the east and therefore a couple of shortwaves
will be able to clip far northeastern Nevada over the weekend.
This still will not have much of an effect on the weather except
to slow the expected warming trend a little. There could be some
isolated showers or maybe a thunderstorm on Sunday afternoon in
Elko County, though mainly in the mountains. After a morning low
in the mid 20's to mid 30's, highs will be in the 60's. Sunday
could also see an isolated thunderstorm in the Jarbidge
Wilderness, but otherwise dry conditions are expected, with highs
in the mid 60's to mid 70's after a morning low in the 30's. On
Monday, the longwave should start to move eastward, though a
northwest flow will still keep temperatures similar to Sunday.

There is model/ensemble agreement for the ridge to finally start
building into the west on Tuesday. This will start the bigger
warm-up and Tuesday's highs will be in the mid 70's to mid 80's
and Wednesday could see valleys in the 80's to around 90. Lows
will be in the 40's. There will be some afternoon breezes at
times during the long term period, but nothing overly strong.

.AVIATION...Strong gusty winds from the west are expected to
develop Thursday morning and increase through the afternoon hours
as strong cold front moves through the state. Wind gusts of 30-40
knots will be common with the potential for 45 knot wind gusts at
KEKO and KELY. Mid and upper- level cloud cover will be present
through Thursday but no ceiling issues are expected. However,
blowing dust and haze will reduce visibility at times Thursday
manifesting as occasional MVFR to IFR conditions. Northwest to
north winds will gradually diminish through Thursday night.

.FIRE WEATHER...Strong winds develop during the morning hours with
peak winds occurring in the afternoon with corresponding RH
values in the teens. Blowing dust and hazy skies will be seen
through all FW zones. Cooler air moves in as this disturbance
moves through Saturday, but a warming trend kicks in after that.

Wind Advisory from 10 AM this morning to 9 PM PDT this evening
for Northeastern Nye County-Northern Elko County-Northern Lander
County and Northern Eureka County-Northwestern Nye County-Ruby
Mountains and East Humboldt Range-South Central Elko County-
Southeastern Elko County-Southern Lander County and Southern
Eureka County-Southwest Elko County-White Pine County.
