Favorable southeasterly winds streaming across Lake Superior into the higher elevations along the shore led to increased snowfall during the overnight hours of the 17th into the 18th.

Favorable southeasterly winds streaming across Lake Superior into the higher elevations along the shore led to increased snowfall during the overnight hours of the 17th into the 18th. Snowfall upwards of an inch per hour were briefly observed with snow totals of just over 7 inches being recorded northeast of Grand Marias.
