Scattered thunderstorms developed during the heat of the day ahead of a cold front. One of these storms produced a brief period of strong winds that downed trees. The cold front trailed southwest from a low pressure center over the Great Lakes region across northern Illinois and central Missouri.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Paducah KY 336 PM CDT Mon Aug 29 2022 .SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Tuesday night) Issued at 336 PM CDT Mon Aug 29 2022 Scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed across the Quad State this afternoon, particularly in Western Kentucky as a smaller scale trough axis moves through today. These slow moving storms have plenty of moisture (PW of 1.75-2 in.) and MUCAPE around 2000 J/kg. Shear continues to be the limiting factor for severe weather risk. Through the rest of the afternoon a few strong storms are likely with a severe storm or two possible. Early morning heavy rainfall rates in Jefferson County, IL of 2 inches of rain an hour suggest an environment capable of more localized flooding issues this afternoon in training storms. Models are quite varied in terms of timing of precipitation rounds, but on average suggest a decrease in activity after sunset, then an increase later in the night as the larger scale trough axis approaches along with a surface cold front. Similar to the afternoon, a few strong storms will be possible and localized flooding issues may materialize with training convection. With the frontal passage, rain is expected to move out of the remainder of the Quad State tomorrow morning. An isolated storm or two are possible in the early morning hours in the Pennyrile area. Models have shifted towards a speedier departure compared to the previous model cycle. Behind the front, winds shift to northwesterly, bringing in cooler and drier air. Mostly sunny skies will allow for highs to reach the mid to upper 80s, but the drier air will result in lows near 60. .LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday) Issued at 336 PM CDT Mon Aug 29 2022 High surface pressure will be in place over the PAH forecast area by midweek under slackening flow aloft. This is expected to provide dry northerly winds initially, veering to the east for much of the extended forecast period as the high moves eastward. Cloudiness will eventually be on the increase, more so by the weekend, as some semblance of low level return flow gets established by the weekend. In addition, surface dewpoints are expected to begin an uptick by Fri, and more by the weekend. By the weekend, our region will be sandwiched between a large ridge aloft out west, and a one just off the Atlantic coast. These somewhat lower heights should at least provide some opportunity for scattered shower and tstm development over the southern half of the region, mainly during the daylight hours, from Sat through Mon. A surface cold front may approach our region early next week, just outside the current Day 7 period. Temps are forecast to be generally seasonable to just above seasonable levels through the period as there will still be intervals of sunshine. Dewpoints will move from around 60 to the upper 60s with time. && .AVIATION...
