(Today through Wednesday) Issued at 313 AM EST Tue Nov 29 2022 Another nice dry day is expected today as a surface high pulls northeastward away from the area and our winds shift to the east and then south-southeast. Aloft an approaching upper trough from the west will shift the upper flow back to the southwest helping to increase moisture and WAA from the Gulf across the FA. Increased daytime temperatures --highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s -- and dewpoints -- mid 40s and upper 50s-- will combine with forcing from the approaching upper trough and help from an overlapping upper jet of 60-80kts to destabilize the FA late this afternoon into the evening. Scattered rain showers will begin across the western portions of the CWA during the evening with increasing coverage across the entire state by mid-morning Wednesday. Ensemble Guidance continues to suggest that a swath of sfc-based CAPE near 500 J/kg extending across much of the state will be present by 12Z tomorrow while deterministic models show even less. Modest mid-level lapse rates of around 6C/km are forecast as the upper trough approaches. The real show stopper severe parameters are the strong bulk shear of 50-80kts and SRH of 200-400+ m2/s2. All of this combined lends confidence towards severe weather developing with damaging winds as the main threat tomorrow morning. This threat is also highlighted by SPC in their Day 2 Convective Outlook. It should be noted that high shear low CAPE set ups during the cooler season across the Southeast can be more impactful than expected. Thus, as the convection becomes more organized during the morning hours and becomes more linear in nature quick QLCS type tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The main line of storms should be south of the CWA by late tomorrow afternoon. In terms of QPF, 0.5 inches to 2 inches are possible focused across north and northcentral GA. Models tend to be slower with these types of systems so the expectation is that the system will move through the FA rather quickly creating no flooding or flash flooding impacts. 28 && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through Monday) Issued at 313 AM EST Tue Nov 29 2022 The extended forecast begins just as the strong frontal system is exiting the GA/SC coast. A large high pressure ridge centered over the central plains begins to build in behind the front Wed evening. This ridge brings with it a much cooler and drier airmass. Temps Wed night dip down into the 30s with highs Thu only getting up into the 50s. The center of this ridge moves rapidly east becoming centered over the Mid-Atlantic states by Thu evening. This ridge sets up more like a wedge by Friday morning with moist easterly flow across north and central GA. At the same time a weak short wave moves NE out of the western gulf spreading increased moisture across the southeastern US. By Sat morning the ridge/wedge axis will have shifted south allowing a large moisture plume to set up across most of the southern US. This increased moisture will bring rain to north and portions of central GA Sat through Monday. With the rain moving in temps will moderate with highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s for the weekend and into early next week. 01 && .AVIATION... No hazardous weather expected today but a developing frontal system will move into West GA tonight. Expecting showers and thunderstorms tonight with the greatest threats being gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and frequent lightning strikes. This frontal system continues into Wednesday. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday... The frontal boundary from Tuesday night will continue moving south and east through the state Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms will accompany this front and some storms may become strong to severe. The biggest threats from these storms will be gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and frequent lightning strikes. Although a very low risk at this time, a brief tornado is also possible, mainly across SW portions of the state. This front should exit the area Wednesday evening with high pressure building in behind it. More rain is expected by the weekend but no hazardous weather is expected at this time. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
