Issued at 214 PM EDT Sun Aug 21 2022 A rather active afternoon with showers and thunderstorms already rushing towards the west coast along the east coast sea breeze. A few storms have also developed right along the Nature Coast. Meanwhile, mid-level high pressure ridge remains across the Florida Peninsula accompanied by the surface high should keep east to southeasterly flow in place through period. As a result, showers and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread over interior locations during the afternoon and evening hours. Then, outflow boundaries and collisions should push convection back towards the coast and eventually dissipate over the water. For this afternoon and evening, model soundings support relatively healthy amounts of CAPE with PWs between 1.8 to 2 inches, and DCAPE values above 1000 J/kg. The combination of these ingredients along with the afternoon sea breeze, should support strong convection with potential for damaging winds and frequent lightning, as there continues to be dry air present in the mid levels. In addition, isolated storms could support some small hail as temperatures aloft cold enough. Residents and visitors across the area should remain alert near thunderstorms. Conditions should be very similar on Monday with a slight increase in moisture. In terms of temperatures, highs in the low to mid 90s with overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s. Heat indices in the triple digits are anticipated during this time. && .LONG TERM (TUE-SAT)... Issued at 214 PM EDT Sun Aug 21 2022 Increasing moisture is expected across the region as upper level low pressure approaches the Eastern Seaboard. If this materializes, an increase in storm coverage and the potential for some severe weather towards the middle of the week. Model guidance keep boundary associated with this system stalled along the northern parts of the state until later in the week. However, conditions should remain fairly moist during this time. Temperatures remain unchanged through the period. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 214 PM EDT Sun Aug 21 2022 Prevailing VFR conditions with intermittent MVFR/IFR ceilings and visibilities are anticipated across terminals through the afternoon and evening. Relatively light E/SE should gradually become more westerly as the sea breeze pushes inland, but should stay west of LAL. Storms are expected to move offshore into the evening and VFR conditions should return and remain to all TAF sites overnight. Erratic winds and frequent lightning will be possible near thunderstorms. && .MARINE... Issued at 214 PM EDT Sun Aug 21 2022 High pressure continues to dominate weather conditions over the Gulf waters through Monday. Light east to southeast winds less than 15 knots with seas less than 3 feet remain in place during this time. Scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly in the late afternoons and early mornings. Then, an approaching area of low pressure is expected to increase showers and storms coverage. Locally higher seas and winds are possible in and near thunderstorms, but no headlines are anticipated at this time. && .FIRE WEATHER... Relatively light east to southeast winds prevail with an onshore shift each afternoon, especially in areas west of the I-75 corridor. Minimum humidities are expected to increase over the next few days as an area of low pressure approaches the region. Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated with an increase in coverage through mid week.
