Sfc winds wl bcm light and variable heading into Fri, with N AR seeing a return to light SW winds late in the PD. /44/ && .PREV DISCUSSION...(ISSUED 249 PM CST Thu Feb 17 2022) Short Term...Tonight thru Saturday... The cold front has swept thru the majority of the area at this time, bringing notably colder and drier air to the region. The majority of the state escaped severe weather today, as atmospheric stability was severely lacking. In any event, cold air will continue to filter in to the state, allowing temperatures to drop down into the teens across the north tonight, with 20's elsewhere. The upper trof was elongating and pushing to the east, and a northwesterly flow will settle into the area during the short term period. Cool and dry conditions will persist thru the short term. Temperatures will begin to moderate on Saturday, with 50's returning to most of the state, with 60's across the south. Extended Term...Saturday Night thru Thursday... An upper trough will be over the east coast to begin the long term period with an upper low just off the west coast. The west coast low dives south Sunday to the Baja and cuts northeast across Texas Monday as it weakens. Another trough enters the northwest Monday and heads into the Rockies by Wednesday and into the Plains Thursday. Surface high pressure will be over the area Saturday night through Monday night. A cold front will move into the northwest part of the state Tuesday. Rain chances will begin Sunday night ahead of the front and the front moves out of the state Tuesday night. Another upper level system moving through Wednesday will bring another chance of rain and a chance of wintry precipitation Wednesday night through Thursday night. Models have been consistent with the wintry weather, though accumulations are being overdone. North and central sections could be affected Wednesday and Thursday by the wintry weather. Being so far out, this could change. Above normal temperatures are expected through Tuesday, then colder air settles in for Wednesday and Thursday. && .LZK Watches/Warnings/Advisories...
