.SYNOPSIS...Monsoon 2021 will take a bit of a break this week with
just a few storms possible mainly near the international border. As a
result, afternoon temperatures will climb to above normal levels
through the weekend.

.DISCUSSION...Thanks to an anomalously strong area of high pressure
developing, we will have a week of suppressed convection and warmer
than normal temperatures through the weekend. The developing high
will be centered near Utah early on then migrate further south
toward the weekend. Through this period 500mb heights at the center
of the high will be 2-2.5 standard deviations above normal, or a
return interval of once in 30+ years for any particular day.
The high will be strong enough to really limit the convection
despite the current higher dewpoints although those will be trending
downward through the week. Afternoon temperatures will peak 4-8
degrees warmer than average many days, potentially coming within 3
or so degrees of records on the hottest days. If the ground wasn't as
wet as it currently is with the resultant evaporation and
evapotranspiration, it would likely be several degrees warmer yet,
posing a greater threat to those records. Not seeing much change in
the warmer and drier outlook well into next week at this time.

border. Wind gusts up to 40 kts nr TS along with brief MVFR conds due

.FIRE WEATHER...Isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly south of
Tucson and west of Tucson through Friday. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms in the White mountains over the next 7 days. 20-foot
winds will generally be less than 15 mph when not influenced by
thunderstorm gusts. Minimum RH values will remain above critical
thresholds with temperatures within a few degrees of normal.
