Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 246 PM MST Wed Jun 16 2021 .SYNOPSIS...Record high temperatures are expected over the next several days, peaking today. Excessive Heat Warnings are in effect for portions of Yavapai, Coconino, and Navajo counties below 5000 feet. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast each afternoon through at least Saturday, especially over the high terrain. && .DISCUSSION...High pressure remains over the Four Corners through Thursday with record to near-record temperatures expected through Thursday. The Excessive Heat Warnings remain in effect for elevations lower than 5,000 feet in the Coconino, Yavapai and Navajo Counties through Friday. Limit outdoor activities to the coolest part of the day and be sure to hydrate. Thunderstorm activity will continue across the higher elevations including the San Francisco Peaks, Mogollon Rim and White Mountains becoming less and less as the weekend approaches. Primary hazards associated with these storms will be gusty outflow winds, lightning and the occasional downpour. The high pressure will shift south Friday, cutting off the moisture feed from the Gulf of California, and drying out the region. This shift will also see a decrease in temperatures, approaching closer to normal through the start of next week. && .AVIATION...For the 00Z package...VFR conditions are expected to persist for the next 24 hours. South-southwesterly winds 10-15 kts becoming light and variable tonight. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms southeast of KFLG along high terrain to produce gusty outflow winds. Brief downpours are also possible under storm cores with highly localized MVFR visibilities. Expect thunderstorms in the afternoons capable of producing gusty outflow winds and lightning. Chance of wetting rains are a slim possibility. Friday through Sunday...Temperatures will decrease by a few degrees. Thunderstorm chances continue for Friday with similar potential hazards.
