A large ridge of high pressure over the southern United States during the middle of July set the stage for excessive heat across the region. Temperatures in the middle to upper 90s, combined with high humidity, resulted in heat indices of 110 to 115 degrees across much of eastern Oklahoma during the afternoon of the 11th.
