A hot, moist, and tropical air mass entered the region behind the front for June 10th, resulting in high temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s and dew points in the 70s across the region.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Cristobal entered the western Great Lakes region on June 9th, extending a warm front across the Ohio Valley during the evening hours. A hot, moist, and tropical air mass entered the region behind the front for June 10th, resulting in high temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s and dew points in the 70s across the region. Heat indices in Northwest Ohio reached the upper 90s during the afternoon of the 10th. A shortwave trough and associated surface cold front entered from the west, allowing for showers and thunderstorms to develop over western Ohio around 3 PM on the 10th in the warm, unstable air mass. Storms began as discrete or clustered cells over western Ohio before congealing into a squall line. This squall line propagated from west to east across northern Ohio but individual cell motion was from south-southwest to north-northeast as the line moved through northern Ohio on the evening of the 10th. The main threat from severe thunderstorms were damaging winds with the strongest winds occurring in Northwest Ohio. Storms produced wind gusts up to 80 mph in the Lake Erie Islands and adjacent mainland areas of Ottawa and Erie Counties in Ohio, with wind damage across Oak Harbor, Catawba Island, Port Clinton, Marblehead, South Bass Island, and Sandusky. Another powerful segment of the line moved across Marion County, including the city of Marion, prompting sporadic damage in the city with wind gusts up to 80 mph. There was one injury with this event in Marion as a facade of a building collapsed onto a nearby vehicle. The intensity of the squall line waned as it passed east of Interstate 71, though it remained severe with sporadic wind damage. As the squall line moved east of Interstate 77 after dark, the line intensified as the storms caught up to the outflow, and backed winds ahead of the line rejuvenated the thunderstorms. Some strong storms moved across Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, producing additional wind damage before moving into Pennsylvania.

.SYNOPSIS...
As Cristobal's remnant low tracks northeastward to near James
Bay, the trailing cold front will sweep east through our area
this evening through early Thursday morning. High pressure
builds from the southwest and west later on Thursday. Another
cold front sweeps southeast through our region on Friday and
will be followed by a high pressure ridge building from the
north and west by this weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A shortwave trough over the Mid and Upper MS Valley this
afternoon should move northeast to ON province and the eastern
Great Lakes region by daybreak Thursday. Simultaneously,
Cristobal's remnant low is pulling away from Lake Superior and
should move northeast to near James Bay. This will cause the
trailing surface cold front to sweep east across our CWA this
evening through the first couple hours of Thursday morning. A
squall line of multicells and perhaps a few supercells along or
just ahead of this front is expected to move eastward across our
region between about 4 PM this evening and midnight EDT
tonight. Many of these storms will likely be severe. Damaging to
destructive wind gusts will be the main threat as the storms
encounter moderate to strong instability, effective bulk shear,
and DCAPE within a very humid warm sector. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms may develop ahead of the squall line as a
progressively southwesterly 850 mb jet streak undergoes
isentropic lift. Some of these isolated thunderstorms may
become supercells. Damaging hail the size of quarters to perhaps
ping pong balls and a tornado or two cannot be ruled-out with
any isolated supercells since surface-based ESRH and mixed-
layer LCL heights may support mesocyclonic tornadogenesis. Fair
weather will return region-wide by daybreak Thursday as a
surface high pressure ridge builds slowly from the west and
southwest. Lows tonight should reach the low to mid 60's as
humidity levels drop behind the cold front.
A longwave trough persists over our area on Thursday as the
aforementioned shortwave trough exits the eastern Great Lakes to
the northeast and another shortwave disturbance approaches from
Lake Superior and vicinity. Fair weather persists as surface
high pressure continues building from the Great Plains and Lower
OH Valley. Late afternoon highs should reach the 70's.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
The short term begins Friday with mostly quiet weather expected
Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, a weak upper trough will
move southeast across the Great Lakes, forcing a cold front
through the area by Friday evening. This will introduce the
chance for some light shower activity, though moisture
throughout the column looks to be limited. Another trough will
swing south across the Great Lakes Saturday night into Sunday as
it begins to become closed off from the main flow.
Friday appears to be a beautiful day with lower humidity and highs
in the mid to upper 70s. Some increasing cloud cover will be
possible with the approaching trough late Friday afternoon and
Friday evening. Much cooler and below average temperatures are
expected on Saturday with highs mainly ranging in the low to mid
60s, though accompanied by mostly sunny skies.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Model guidance differs on location of the closed low, with some
solutions pushing the low quickly east, reaching the Mid-Atlantic
coast by Monday afternoon. Other guidance has the closed low slowly
meandering southward across the Ohio Valley through much of the long
term period (Sunday through Wednesday). A closed low solution would
offer multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms, as well as
cooler and cloudier weather, through mid-week. A quicker exit
towards the Mid-Atlantic would allow weak ridging and high pressure
to build across the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys and thus warmer, but
drier weather. Still fairly low confidence, so have opted to retain
slight chance PoPs from previous forecast.

.AVIATION /18Z Wednesday THROUGH Monday/...
As surface high pressure exits to the east, a cold front should
sweep east through our region between roughly 22Z/Wed and
04Z/Thurs. A line of showers and thunderstorms is expected along
or just ahead of this front, while additional isolated showers
and storms may occur ahead of the line. Severe thunderstorms are
expected and damaging wind gusts of 50 to 65 knots will likely
be the main threat. Brief MVFR ceilings and visibility may
accompany any shower or storm. Southerly to south-southwesterly
surface winds of about 15 to 20 knots, gusting up to 30 knots,
will occur ahead of the cold front. Behind the front, any
lingering rain showers and MVFR ceilings should end within an
hour or two of frontal passage. West-southwesterly to westerly
and breezy surface winds follow the cold front as another
surface high builds slowly from the southwest and west.
Outlook...Occasional non-VFR possible with scattered showers
and perhaps thunderstorms Friday through Monday.

Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for the western four zones of
Lake Erie through noon Thursday. A second Small Craft Advisory area
is also in effect from Cleveland towards Erie, starting at 4 AM
Thursday through 6 PM Thursday. This is in response to a cold front
which will track east across the lake tonight with southerly winds
becoming more southwest, then westerly by Thursday. Some storms
along or just ahead of the front later this afternoon and evening
could bring brief wind gusts up to 50 knots as well as hail up to
one inch in size.

Hancock County Emergency Management reported a barn on the 1700 block of County Road 26 collapsed onto ground.
Wyandot County Sheriff Dispatch reported a tree down on County Road 330 near County Road 81.
A trained spotter reported 16 inch diameter tree was downed at Ohio State Route 235 at County Road 84.
Wyandot County Sheriff Dispatch and a social media post reported several trees down in the Carey area in northwestern Wyandot County.
Hancock County Sheriff Dispatch reported trees and wires were down in the Findlay area.
Social media reports of several trees down in the North Baltimore area. Strong winds caused roof and window damage at a residence.
A social media report relayed a large tree down west of New Riegel.
A social media report revealed several trees were downed in the Arcadia area.
Social media reports indicated several trees down in the Bloomdale area, including one tree branch onto a detached garage.
Marion County Emergency Management provided evidence of significant wind damage across the Marion area due to severe thunderstorm winds of up to 80 mph. Numerous trees and power lines were downed across the city with several large trees falling onto residences. Winds ripped off a significant portion of a roof of an industrial building on the west side of Marion. Winds also caused the brick facade of a building in downtown Marion to collapse onto a vehicle. The vehicle was occupied at the time of the damage and the female occupant sustained minor injuries. There was also evidence on social media that a gustnado may have formed with the squall line that moved through the Marion area just before 6 pm local time.
An automated weather sensor west of Tiffin measured a 66 mph wind gust. Trees were reported down across the Tiffin area, including one near the intersection of US Route 224 and Township Highway 18.
A trained spotter reported trees and power lines down in the Risingsun area.
A social media report showed trees snapped in the Bradner area, including one falling onto State Route 281.
Several large tree branches were reported down in the Pemberville area.
Amateur radio operators reported that a barn was blown down northwest of Rocky Ridge.
A photo on social media showed a few trees downed or snapped on the Morrow side of the intersection of Morrow, Marion, and Delaware Counties.
Ottawa County Emergency Management, Sheriff Dispatch, and several trained spotters reported widespread wind damage across Ottawa County. Tree damage and downed power poles and lines were reported in Oak Harbor, Port Clinton, Catawba Island, and Marblehead in the mainland portions of the county. Several of the downed trees were quite large, as much as three and a half feet in diameter, and several were reported to be snapped. Outside of a few trees falling onto structures, some homes reported wind damage with a roof removed from a garage and others having miscellaneous roof and shingle damage. An automated wind sensor at Carl R Keller Field reported a 60 mph wind gust during the event. Power outages in the area lasted several days.
A trained spotter reported trees down off State Route 19 near the Ottawa and Sandusky County line. The spotter estimated a 75 mph wind gust at their location.
A Twitter user reported a semi truck was blown over by winds on US Route 30, south of North Robinson.
Morrow County Sheriff Dispatch reported several trees downed across roads in the county.
A social media report showed several power poles downed on US Route 6 near Ohio State Route 269, north of Castalia.
Extensive tree damage occurred across South Bass Island and Put-In-Bay. Some trees fell onto power lines and homes, causing minor damage to a few structures. An automated wind sensor at South Bass Island measured a 76 mph wind gust.
Erie County Emergency Management, Sheriff Dispatch, members of the media, and trained spotters reported several areas of wind damage in the Sandusky area. Wind damage generally spanned south to north across the city. Trees, power lines, and power poles were downed across the area. A fire station on US Route 250 lost portions of its roof. The most notable damage was to the Sandusky State Theater in Downtown Sandusky. Winds in excess of 70 mph allowed for a wall of the theater to collapse and the roof to sustain major damage.
ASOS station KMFD at Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport measured a 51 knot thunderstorm wind gust.
A large tree fell onto a home on Berlin Road.
A social media user reported trees down on their property in Florence Township. One tree fell onto a shed.
A follower on social media reported two trees were uprooted in the New London area.
A trained spotter reported several semi trucks flipped over at Interstate 71 and US Route 30. Also, a 4 ft diameter tree was downed nearby at the Richland/Ashland County line at the intersection US Route 30 and Ohio State Route 603.
Trained spotters and social media reports provided evidence of sporadic wind damage in southern Lorain County. Two trees were downed on Bursley Road near Rochester. Trees were also downed on Ohio State Route 18 near Wellington. A tree also fell onto a house in Lagrange Township.
Several social media reports of trees down on homes in Avon Lake. A restaurant sign was also damaged and tossed 60 feet.
Trained spotters and social media reports relayed numerous trees and large branches down with several cabins and cottages damaged at a campground northeast of Pleasant Hill Lake. Several wires and electrical lines were also downed. Another tree fell onto a house in Perrysville.
A trained spotter reported several small trees snapped west of Homerville.
A newspaper photographer relayed via social media photos of numerous trees down in the Mount Vernon area. One tree fell onto a home and adjacent vehicle on Hamtramck Street.
Lorain County Emergency Management and broadcast media confirmed multiple trees down in the Elyria and North Ridgeville areas. The homes were damaged due to falling trees. A gazebo was also damaged.
A local newspaper reported trees downed southeast of Hayesville. There was also a social media report of roof damage to a barn between Hayesville and Loudonville.
Four trees reported down in the Loudonville area.
Trained spotters, broadcast media, and social media all report trees down in the western suburbs of Cleveland, including Westlake, North Olmsted, and Rocky River.
Holmes County Sheriff Dispatch reports trees and power lines down across Holmes County. The worst damage was in the western half of the county, specifically the Lakeville area where several trees were downed in the vicinity of County Road 100 and Township Road 1060.
Local law enforcement reported trees down in Cleveland Heights. Streets impacted include Euclid Avenue, Yellowstone Road, and Hampshire Road.
Miscellaneous tree damage reported on the west side of Akron and in surrounding suburbs, including Barberton and Fairlawn.

Chardon Fire Department reports trees and wires down across the city. Locations impacted include: US Route 6 at Auburn Road, Irma Drive, and Battles Court.
Local law enforcement stated that a tree fell onto a gas meter on Addington Court in Newbury Township.
Members of the public and social media indicated tree damage in Kent. Two trees were downed on Riverbend Trail and three trees were downed in Artemis Drive Park.
A trained spotter reported a 1.5 TO 2 ft diameter tree fell onto Dexter Avenue NE between Stratford and Oxford. A large tree limb was also downed in nearby Perry Heights.
Trumbull County Sheriff Dispatch and social media reported trees downed in Howland and Vienna Townships. Of these reports, two trees were reported downed onto a trailer in a mobile home park in Vienna Township.
Mahoning County Sheriff Dispatch reported trees and wires down in the Austintown area.
Trumbull County Sheriff Dispatch reported numerous trees downed north of State Route 305 in Kinsman Township.
