.SYNOPSIS...
Trade winds will continue through the forecast period, becoming
fairly strong Wednesday through Friday before easing slightly next
weekend. Clouds and showers will favor windward areas, but afternoon
and evening showers can also be expected over the Big Island's Kona
slopes.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
As a stalled front north of the islands dissipates, a pair of
highs will consolidate far north-northeast of the islands. Trade
winds across local waters will strengthen in response, becoming
locally windy from late Wednesday into Friday. Our airmass will
remain stable and capped through the week, allowing a few showers
to grace windward areas (especially during night and morning
hours), while limiting shower intensity and total rainfall
amounts. Leeward Big Island slopes will see afternoon and evening
clouds and showers that occasionally continue into the early
morning hours.

Scattered to broken high clouds will lift northeast of the area
tonight as the associated upper low does the same. This same low
will become re-energized and drift back toward the islands over
the weekend, potentially bringing an increase in windward showers
as trade winds decrease slightly in response to weakening of the
high.

&&

.AVIATION...
Moderate to breezy trade winds will continue through the 24-hr
period and beyond. Clouds and showers will favor the typical
windward and mountain locations, especially through the overnight
and early morning periods. Although leeward locations will remain
mostly dry, a few showers spilling over periodically will be
possible. Brief periods with MVFR CIGS and VSBYS can't be ruled
out in and around these passing clouds and showers. The high
clouds tracking northeastward over the eastern end of the island
chain should clear out by Tuesday morning.

There are no AIRMETs in effect.

&&

.MARINE...
High pressure north of the area will maintain easterly trade winds
over Hawaiian waters through at least early next week. Winds will
strengthen through Thursday as a strong high builds north of the
area. Winds will subside slowly after Thursday as the high moves
farther east. A Small Craft Advisory (SCA) is now in effect for
the windy waters around Maui County and the Big Island. As the
winds strengthen further, the SCA will likely be expanded.

Surf will remain below advisory levels along all shores through
the weekend. Swells from the southern hemisphere will maintain
small to moderate surf along south facing shores. A series of
short-period swells will produce small surf along north facing
shores starting Tuesday. Surf will rise along east facing shores
as the trade winds strengthen, but at this point, it appears that
the surf will remain below the advisory level.
