.AVIATION...VFR conditions will prevail for the terminals of Deep
South Texas. Today will be very similar to Monday in that gusty
southeasterly daytime winds are expected as well as isolated
showers and thunderstorms. The coverage is the main limiting
factor so decided to keep only VCs in for now. Subsequent updates
may have a higher confidence in timing, coverage, and location.
Brief MVFR conditions will be possible in any convection if it
develops or moves close in proximity to the terminals. Winds and
rain chances decrease shortly after sunset.

PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 246 PM CDT Mon Sep 9 2019/
SHORT TERM (Now through Tuesday Night): Satellite imagery
continues to show the mid to upper level low parked over the
region early this afternoon. Brownsville radar currently indicates
some ongoing convection across portions of Cameron and Kenedy
Counties. Additional showers and thunderstorms will continue to
develop across the area through late this afternoon into the early
evening hours. Streamer showers are expected to form over the
Gulf waters late tonight into Tuesday morning.
The 500 mb low will lollygag over deep south Texas through the
forecast period. The combination of ample low level moisture and the
mid level weakness overhead, will support at least diurnally driven
isolated to scattered convection across the area Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected to remain near normal levels courtesy of
the presence of the mid level low and soils wetted from recent
rains. Low temperatures tonight and Tuesday night will fall into the
mid to upper 70s across much of the area, except for the lower 80s
at the beaches. High temperatures Tuesday will range from the low to
mid 90s near the coast to the upper 90s across the west near Roma
and Falcon Lake.
LONG TERM (Wednesday through Monday): The global models continue
to be in fairly good agreement with the 500mb trough/shear axis
across south Texas Wednesday between the 500mb subtropical ridge
across the southeast United States and a 500mb ridge across
northern Mexico. Low to mid level moisture will remain high across
the western Gulf of Mexico extending northward into south Texas
Wednesday into Thursday before some drier air from the east and
northeast moves into portions of the CWA Friday. This will provide
scattered showers and thunderstorms...mainly across the coastal
sections of the CWA...Wednesday and Thursday...before rain
chances diminish on Friday. Will mention a slight chance to chance
of showers and thunderstorms...mainly across the coastal sections
of the CWA...through the rest of the week into the weekend. The
rest of the forecast period will depend on the 500mb low/inverted
trough across the northwest Gulf of Mexico Sunday. The global
models continue to diverge with the ECMWF bringing the upper level
low towards the Texas coast Monday while the the GFS lifts the
upper level low feature northward with the bulk of the moisture
and rainfall across the Florida panhandle into Alabama Monday.
Will mention a chance of rain across the eastern portions of deep
south Texas Sunday through Monday for now but rain chances may be
too high if the GFS model solution has a better handle of the
500mb low than the ECMWF model solution.
MARINE (Now through Tuesday night): Light to moderate winds and
moderate seas, generally 3 feet or less, are forecast along the
lower Texas coast with surface high pressure in control. Small Craft
Exercise Caution conditions may be possible on the Laguna Madre and
the nearshore Gulf waters on Tuesday.
Wednesday through Saturday...Light to moderate east to southeast
winds will prevail across the coastal waters Wednesday with
surface high pressure across the southeast United States. The
pressure gradient will weaken across the western Gulf of Mexico
Thursday. Light east to southeast winds Thursday will back to the
east and northeast Friday with weak surface high pressure building
into northeast Texas Friday. The light east to northeast will
continue across the coastal waters Saturday.
