Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1000 PM PDT Wed Jun 5 2019 .SYNOPSIS... Above normal temperatures will continue through the end of the work week before an incoming weather system ushers in a downward trend in temps for the weekend. Isolated showers and a few storms will once again be possible over central Nevada and northern Inyo County Thursday afternoon before conditions dry out through early next week. Periods of breezy conditions are expected through the weekend. .UPDATE...Considerable remnant high clouds from earlier convection over the Southern Sierra and Great Basin will slowly diminsih overnight as it drifts eastward ahead of the leading edge of an incoming broad Pacific Trough. This feature will lead to increasing southwest winds Thursday afternoon across the region as detailed in the previous discussion. No immediate changes needed. && .PREV DISCUSSION... 224 PM PDT Wed Jun 5 2019 .DISCUSSION...Tonight through Tuesday. As of early this afternoon, Las Vegas has reached 100 degrees for the first time in 2019. It has been 249 days since we last saw a day with a high temp over 100 degrees which was back on September 28th, 2018. The ridge over the Desert Southwest will shift eastward through tomorrow as an incoming Pacific weather system approaches and moves onshore the West Coast Thursday and Thursday night. As a result, temps will level off at above normal values tomorrow before a downward trend begins on Friday as heights begin to fall. Isolated shower and thunderstorm activity will again be present on Thursday afternoon across central Nevada and northern Inyo County with the best chances to see any rain remaining over northern Lincoln County. Winds will also pick up as a result of the passing system Thursday and Friday with south to southwest winds gusting 25-35 mph possible both days. Friday night through Saturday, the associated sfc cold front will make its way north to south through the area shifting winds to the north and sustaining the breeze through Sunday. The main forcing with this system will remain to the north and conditions are expected to remain dry with its passage. Early next week, ridging will build back in allowing for increasing temps once again back to above normal values Monday and Tuesday. && .AVIATION...For McCarran....VFR conditions expected through the period with heat and wind as the primary hazard. A push of south to southwest winds with gusts 15 to 25 kts is likely to begin in the Las Vegas Valley late Thursday morning or Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will rise near or to 100 degrees again Thursday afternoon as well. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California... VFR conditions expected through the TAF period. A push of southwest winds will work across the region with gusts of up to 20-30 kts across region by Thursday afternoon.
