.SYNOPSIS...Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the mountains,
mainly along the Sierra Nevada crest, this afternoon. High
temperatures this afternoon will be about ten degrees above
normal for this time of year. A cooling trend is expected Thursday
through Friday as a storm system moves eastward north of
California.

.DISCUSSION...
A ridge of high pressure over the region today will help
temperatures to warm several degrees above yesterday, with highs
around 10 degrees above normal for early June. This will put high
temperatures in the San Joaquin Valley 99 to 103. A Heat Advisory
remains in effect for the southern and western parts of the San
Joaquin Valley this afternoon and early evening. Once again, the
daytime heating will produce enough instability over the mountains
for another afternoon of isolated showers and thunderstorms.

The heat will be short-lived, as cooling begins Thursday as a
low pressure system moves in to the Pacific Northwest, weakening
the ridge and pushing a cold front south into California. Winds
will become breezy in the San Joaquin Valley late Thursday
afternoon and evening as the cooler air begins to filter in. By
Friday, temperatures will be back into the mid 80s in the San
Joaquin Valley as the low moves across northern California and
into the intermountain west. The airmass change will also bring
continued drying with mountain convection limited to some buildups
near the crest on Thursday and shut off by Friday as a cool, dry
and stable airmass prevails over the mountains.

As the low moves east Saturday, high pressure will once again
begin to build over the west coast and temperatures will warm once
again. Daytime highs might approach the century mark once again
in the San Joaquin Valley by Tuesday. A dry airmass remains
through the weekend and into next week.

.AVIATION...Local mountain obscurations possible over the Sierra
Nevada due to afternoon and evening thunderstorms. VFR conditions
will otherwise prevail across the Central California Interior
through at least the next 24 hours.

.HYDROLOGY...
A Flood Advisory is in effect for the Kings River
from Pine Flat Dam to Kingsburg. Minor flooding has been reported
at Lidy's Landing, Royal Oaks, and the Kings River Golf and
Country Club. Snowmelt and increased water releases out of Pine
Flat Dam will likely cause additional flooding for all downstream
locations along the Kings River as far west as Kingsburg.

The Merced River at Stevinson will remain above monitor stage
through Wednesday afternoon.
