.SYNOPSIS...A strong low pressure system will affect the region
through Sunday morning. A high wind warning is in effect for the
coast. Wind advisories are in effect for portions of the interior of
Western Washington. High pressure and offshore flow will bring some
sunshine and warm temperatures to the area Monday. Additional fronts
will move through the area Tuesday through Friday.

.SHORT TERM...There were some heavy rain bands moving through the I-
5 corridor this morning but the the precip will become more showery
now. A 970mb low all wrapped up just offshore is still moving north.
The low will stop moving north this afternoon and will move east
tonight, filling to 999mb as it reaches Forks around daybreak
Sunday. It will be windy through Sunday morning as the remnants of
the low move ashore. A high wind warning is in effect for the coast
through this evening, with wind advisories for portions of the north
part of Western Washington. Although it has only been a little breezy
so far around Seattle this morning, it will become windy midday in
the Seattle Tacoma metro area.
The higher elevations of the mountains should pick up some heavy wet
snow. Mount Rainier south looks to have the heaviest snow tonight
and the rain at Paradise should be changing to wet snow later this
morning.
High pres builds into Western Washington Sunday night into Monday
morning and then low level flow turns offshore as the high moves
inland. Monday should be sunny with highs in the 60s.
.LONG TERM...Extended models showing good consistency this
morning for most of the forecast period. Next front to reach the
area becoming a little negatively tilted offshore Monday night.
This will slow the eastward motion of the front down with the rain
associated with the front not moving into the area until Tuesday
morning. Another front arriving on Wednesday but with the jet
aimed south of the area this front will be weakening as it moves
inland. Upper level trough moving through the area on Thursday
keeping showers in the forecast. Some timing issues with the front
for late in the week starting to show up in the models with the
GFS a little faster with the system spreading rain into the area
on Friday. The ECMWF is 6 to 12 hours slower with the front.
Current forecast more in line with the ECMWF solution for day 7
and with the inconsistent model solutions will stay with just
chance pops on Friday for now. Its going to be a grey and wet
week after Monday. It's possible that by the end of the week some
locations in Western Washington will surpass their normal rainfall
total for the entire month of April. Felton

.AVIATION...A strong upper low out near 130W will gradually weaken
by the time it crosses Northwest Washington on Sunday morning.
Strong southwest flow aloft today will become moderate westerly
flow late tonight, then moderate northwesterly on Sunday
afternoon. The air mass will be moist and a little unstable
through Sunday. Showers and plenty of cigs at or below 050 this
afternoon, with another batch of heavier rain and cigs below 030
coming in late this afternoon and this evening.
KSEA...Gusty south-southwest winds expected for the next 30 hours,
with surface gusts around 30 knots expected late this afternoon
and early this evening. An easterly component to the pressure
gradient will help cigs remain at or above 050 through about 03z,
then cigs will lower later this evening, eventually dipping to 020
or less late this evening through Sunday morning. Haner

.MARINE...A 970 mb low near 47N 131W will fill to a 994 mb
low by the time it reaches Cape Flattery early Sunday morning. As
a result, strong southeast gradients today will become more
southerly on Sunday and start to relax.
Gale warnings remain in effect for all of the waters except for
the Central Strait of Juan de Fuca, where a small craft advisory
is in effect. Strongest winds are expected behind this afternoon
as the low moves close to the waters before starting to fill more
quickly. Winds will slowly diminish late tonight into Sunday, but
will likely remain above small craft advisory criteria over most
of the waters through much of Sunday.
Seas will build to 22-25 ft over the southern outer coastal waters
later this morning and to around 20 ft over the inner coastal
waters this afternoon and evening before very slowly subsiding
later tonight through Sunday.
High pressure will build into the waters from the southwest late
Sunday then will shift east of the Cascades on Monday giving
offshore flow.
Frontal systems will affect the waters Tuesday and again later
Wednesday bringing small craft advisory conditions to most of the
waters and possible gales at times to the coastal waters. Haner

.HYDROLOGY...Heavy rain on the south slopes of the Olympics today
and tonight will push the Skokomish river up to near flood stage
late tonight or Sunday. A flood watch remains in effect for the
Skokomish river in Mason County. Other rivers will rise but
flooding is unlikely over the next seven days. Felton
