.AVIATION...
Have backed off a bit on fog forecast with no visby restrictions
developing so far and winds a bit more elevated than last night.
Still not high confidence in the fog situation with some models
still indicating areas of fog developing around sunrise. Still
have a tempo IFR fog group for ALI/VCT around sunrise with MVFR at
LRD. During the day will see VFR conditions return to all sites.
By tomorrow evening, a cold front will be approaching and should
be moving through VCT/LRD around the end of this TAF period. Will
not include rain mention in the TAFS at this point as moisture
will be limited.

.PREVIOUS DISCUSSION... /Issued 340 PM CST Wed Jan 31 2018/
SHORT TERM (Tonight through Thursday night)...
Tonight will be warmer. Anticipate patchy fog to areas of fog to
develop inland once again. Southerly winds will persist tonight as
the surface low over northwest Texas deepens. Through the period
a cut-off upper level low will remain off shore of the Baja
Peninsula while an upper trough moves across the northern Central
Plains into the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley. A cold front will move
south Thursday, pushing through South Texas on Thursday night.
During the day tomorrow winds will take on a more southwesterly to
westerly direction inland, bringing unseasonably warm
temperatures (highs upper 70s low 80s most locations) during the
day. Near the coast winds will remain more southerly, and greater
moisture will continue to move into the region. With high
dewpoints over the cooler coastal waters tomorrow night anticipate
areas of sea fog to develop, especially across the northern area
bays and nearshore waters. Patchy fog will also be possible across
the Coastal Bend tomorrow evening into the early night. As the
cold front pushes closer to the coast though, anticipate fog to
clear. In addition, isolated to scattered showers will be possible
late tomorrow night into early Friday morning across the Coastal
Bend and coastal waters.
LONG TERM (Friday through Wednesday)...
Cold front will be in the process of moving through the area early
Friday morning. Rain chances will be limited to the coastal counties
and coastal waters Friday. Winds will increase over the Gulf waters
to SCA levels on Friday. But affects from front will be brief as the
surface high moves through the Ohio/Tennessee valleys Friday and to
the Mid-Atlantic Friday night. A coastal trough will form Friday
night. Isentropic lift will increase late Friday night into Saturday
with best chances for showers over the Victoria Crossroads into the
coastal waters Saturday. The coastal trough/warm front will move
east of the area by Saturday night with rain chances falling to
slight chance over the coastal plains/coastal waters. A short wave
trough will move southeast across the southern plains Saturday
night. This will send another front through the area Sunday. A
moderate offshore flow is expected behind this front Sunday night.
High pressure will quickly move east with onshore flow forming again
Monday. Models differ on timing of the next front. Will go with a
compromise showing the front moving through the area Tuesday night.
With limited moisture return, will only show slight chance PoPs over
the coastal waters Tuesday night.
