What happened

Dec 1: The 0000168 Wildfire began 1355CST about six miles southwest of Conlen Texas in Dallam County off US Highway 54 East. The wildfire consumed three hundred and seventy-nine acres and was caused by equipment use. The Dalhart VFD responded to the wildfire which was controlled at 1644CST. There were no reports of any injuries or fatalities. There were also no reports of any homes or other structures damaged or lost from the wildfire.

DISCUSSION...
Northwest winds will gradually decrease through the day as the upper
level storm system moves away from the Panhandles.

The next storm system will approach the Panhandles on Sunday. At
this time, it looks like it will take a little while to moisten up
the lower layers of the atmosphere, so have cut back the pops for
Sunday afternoon to just the southwest Texas Panhandle closest to
the incoming dynamics.  We have followed the ECMWF model fairly
closely for this forecast through Monday as it seems to capture the
meteorology the best.  The precipitation will most likely start off
as snow since the snow falling from aloft will eventually cool the
column enough and evaporational cooling near the surface should be
sufficient to cool the near surface temperature enough for snow.
Snow should increases in coverage and intensity Sunday night as the
main upper level dynamics move across.  Falling snow should be done
with by sunrise Monday as the dynamics move north away from the
Panhandles.  The best chance of snow Sunday night looks to be from
the northwest Texas Panhandle southeast into the south central Texas
Panhandle. 1 to 3 inches of snow may fall in areas from Amarillo
north and northwest toward Dumas, Channing, Hartley, Dalhart and
Texline.

After a cool day in the 30's for Monday, highs will gradually warm
Tuesday and Wednesday to near to slightly above normal.  Then
another storm system will approach the region from the west on
Thursday and it could bring another round of snow to the area Friday.
