Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Norman OK 1214 PM CDT Wed Mar 21 2018 .DISCUSSION... && .AVIATION... For the 18z TAFs: VFR conditions are expected to prevail. Periods of high-level clouds/cirrus will be seen. Winds will strengthen early tomorrow morning and could become gusty by late morning. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 314 AM CDT Wed Mar 21 2018/ DISCUSSION... Southerly winds will return to the area today along with warmer temperatures. The warming trend will continue through the rest of the week with highs around 90 degrees possible in some locations by Friday. Breezy southerly winds will also continue through Friday with the strongest winds expected on Friday. Moisture will increase over the next few days as moisture spreads north on the southerly winds. Models show that a dryline could move into portions of the fa Friday with a cold front moving across the area Friday night as a shortwave moves across the central Plains. There are some model differences as to timing of the dryline on Friday. The timing of this dryline, how far east the drier air goes, and west winds could have an impact on fire weather conditions in western portions of the fa Friday afternoon. Very little to no precipitation is expected in the fa with this shortwave and boundaries. The front is expected to stall over the fa Saturday and lift back north as a warm front Saturday night/Sunday. Some showers and storms will be possible with the warm air advection and a mid-level disturbance moving across the southern Plains this weekend. Rain chances will continue into next week as a closed low develops over the southwest U.S. with southwest flow and embedded disturbances affecting the region. Models show another cold front moving across the area early next week which could also aid in showers and thunderstorms. Overall, it looks like a wet weather pattern will be possible for at least parts of the fa this weekend into next week. Some strong to severe storms could be possible at times with heavy rain possibly becoming more of a concern next week. Fire Weather... Very warm temperatures, breezy winds, and drier air possibly moving into western portions of the fa behind the dryline will likely lead to increased fire weather conditions Friday afternoon. With the uncertainties concerning the timing/position of the dryline, it is unknown how much of the fa will experience the Near Critical to Critical conditions that could be possible Friday afternoon but it does look like at least portions of western OK and western north TX will have a good chance for these conditions. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
