Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 913 PM PDT Thu Sep 6 2018 .EVENING UPDATE... Calm and benign pattern expected through the overnight. Not much change to the forecast grids with the evening update, just removed any higher terrain PoPs that still existed through 18Z tomorrow. Winds should stay light and variable with skies clearing through the overnight. && .AVIATION UPDATE...For McCarran...Gusty winds have subsided for the most part this evening. Expecting winds to stay light and variable through the overnight period. A few lingering clouds at 12kft will persist through about midnight before becoming SKC. Winds will eventually shift to light and generally out of the east and southeast tomorrow afternoon but still stay below 8kts in general. An occasional periodic gust to 15 kts can't be ruled out. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...Benign weather pattern expected with high pressure aloft. Typical diurnal wind pattern expected for all sites with SKC or FEW at best expected. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued at 203 PM PDT Thu Sep 6 2018/ .SYNOPSIS...An area of high pressure off the southern California Coast will move inland and bring dry northwest flow aloft along with above normal temperatures during the weekend. A dry weather pattern over the region will persist through the middle of next week, although it will become windy. && .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Saturday night. Quiet weather is expected through Saturday. Dry westerly flow with building high pressure at the surface will result in dry weather with no precipitation expected after this evening. Less cloud cover is expected on Friday and Saturday than today as well dry out the midlevels for the end of the week. Temperatures will be main focus as high temperatures gradually increase each day and then peaking on Saturday. A blend of the best performing models for temperatures in the 48hour range made little change to high or low temperatures. Temperatures will be borderline higher impact as we will be running about 10 degrees above normal and pushing record territories, however the heat looks to be short lived and humidity will be low. WIll not be issuing any heat warnings at this time. && .LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday. No major changes to the long term forecast. Drier and warmer-than- average conditions persist as a strong area of high pressure moves inland off the southern coast of California, keeping PoPs from the forecast. Late Sunday evening through the overnight hours, the high pressure will begin to weaken as a trough develops from the Pacific Northwest. As the trough deepens, temperatures will cool and approach seasonal norms through next week. Meanwhile, beginning Tuesday, the region will inherit a strong southwesterly flow with sustained wind speeds hovering between 20-30 mph. Long-range models suggest reentering PoPs for the far eastern portions of our CWA into the forecast as a result of the digging trough for the latter half of next week.
