A trough of low pressure and a cold front from the west collided with warm moist air from the southeast to form strong to severe thunderstorms. While most of the strongest storms developed later in the day over North Dakota, a few strong to severe thunderstorms occurred over the northeast corner of Montana during the morning hours.
